It’s been one hell of two weeks.

And that pretty much sums up the whole of how two weeks of having no usual companionship in my place is. Fourteen days seem like their respective years, and I feel as though nothing could make me feel any better than to just see her again. And no, I can’t take the goodbye she told me wholeheartedly because I know she’s holding back a lot more.

If she said she loves me, why would she leave me? She promised that she’d never leave me. And I held on to that word, hoping that if everything of this nutcase situation will end, we can be hopefully something more. Is it because of something her brother had said to her? I wouldn’t know because, apparently, she isn’t even sharing anything to Franz.

She said she left because she wanted me — and all the other people surrounding her — to be safe. But how can I exactly define the definition of the word safe if I, myself, feel like being reckless in my actions just to get the measures on seeing her again. That can’t be right . . . because no matter how much preparation we do against Lance, it can’t diminish the fear we have especially that we don’t know when he’ll take a leap.

Feeling a bit vindictive for no reason, I press the doorbell to Franz’ flat.

It took me exactly half an hour to get my mind straight. We had all our necessary interviews and radio shows done within the time of seven days, and it was exhausting going all over places but I feel restless somehow. And I know that part of this is because I just want to see her again. The other part is because I drank too many Cokes before and after the interview we just did earlier.

Franz opened the door a bit and peeked to see who it was. When she noticed that it was me, she opened the door wider. “Oh, hi, Niall,” she said, smiling at me grimly, making it seem as though she grimacing. “Come inside. Where are the others?”

“I came alone,” I said as I stepped inside and she closed the door behind me.

She led the way up to her flat and asked, “You’re here to see Lady, yeah?”

“How’d you know?” I asked as I followed her.

“Because I know both of you and Lady enough,” she said, giving me the same grim smile as earlier. “Personally, I think she’s stupid for taking everything too seriously and getting scared too easily. I thought that being around people who wouldn’t give much crap about the world would toughen a girl up but . . . instead, it probably did the upside down version.”

Franz let me in first as I said, “She’s still pretty stoked up with her mother’s death, you know. She’s been accused for so many times on being the reason behind it. . . . It wouldn’t exactly make her the sunshine-and-rainbows type.”

She sighed, closing her eyes and nodded her head. “I understand that part, Horan,” she said. “But I thought that she’d be someone stronger now that she’s got a reason to be brave.
