Being the completely ungraceful person that I am, I nearly knocked over a couple of things as I half-sprinted going to my door and to the lift of my flat building. Surely, when Lance had said that the cab was waiting outside my flat and I pulled the curtains aside to look, there it was. So I took the chance and immediately went, since I know this will be the last move Lance will be taking for his game.

I felt apprehensive about how Lady was going to take the news. She may get angry at me for keeping the secret from her for a long time already, and the same time, spooked out about what Lance would be doing once the truth is told to her. Or, hopefully, she would understand why I kept it from her and why Lance had to act that way towards her and she wouldn’t push me away farther than she already has.

Or, in the most possible worst case scenario, she wouldn’t say anything at all and just leave me hanging in mid-air. I would take it if she’s mad or angry at me, but I would never just forget about things that easily if she wouldn’t give me a reaction. Getting angry is better than being unfeeling.

Once getting downstairs and inside the taxi, the cabbie didn’t say anything as he sped down the highway. It was as if he understood the urgency in this situation; I’m sure he does. He probably works for Lance’s dad and is probably one of the people he told about his real plan. But I can’t really tell since upon seeing his reflection on the rear view mirror, he looks as emotionless as I hope Lady won’t be with me.

I finally got to the warehouse, which was just a few kilometres away from the airport but you could still pretty much hear the airplanes flying off overhead. The cabbie didn’t say anything as I got out and immediately drove off the place, not waiting for any fair I’d pay. OK, he obviously got paid by Lance. I turned and ran towards the entrance of the warehouse.

Inside, Lady was standing there before Lance, a few meters just separating the two of them. Her back was facing at me, and she probably heard my footsteps echoing in the warehouse loudly when I got in because she turned around to face me with the uttermost terrified look on her face.

And then I figured that she wasn’t scared of me. She was scared of what would happen to me.

Which, actually, would be nothing—because one thing I know about the Dominiques is that they never turn back on the word they’ve said with certainty and truthfulness.

“Niall!” Lady said. “Get your bloody arse out of here!”

However, Lance acted as though he didn’t hear Lady say anything. I kept my ground near the entrance.

“Well,” he said, smirking as if my sudden appearance was humorous for him, “hello, Niall. I haven’t seen you in the longest time. The first and last time was when I went inside you house, wasn’t it?”

“It definitely was,” I answered dryly, walking slowly towards Lady.

“I told you to get the bloody out of here, Niall!” Lady said and then turned at Lance. “I thought you said it was just going to be the two of us, Lance. Don’t bring Niall into this.”
