"Hello?"
Cesar, very anxiously, asked her, "Tati, is Oscar there? He's not picking up his phone."
"Yeah, hold on." Tatiana pulled her phone away from her and turned to the open bedroom door. "Oscar!" She waited a few seconds before she heard footsteps and appeared in the doorway. "Cesar wants to talk to you." Oscar wordlessly grabbed her phone and spoke quietly before hanging up. "What happened?"
"That puto Latrelle pulled a gun on Cesar. I'll be back."
Tatiana stared at him before shaking her head and standing up. "No, I'm coming with you."
"Tati-"
"No. Cesar's like my little brother and Monse's probably freaking out. I'm coming." She told him and she slipped on a shoe, grabbed a hoodie and crutched pass the cholo who stood in her doorway.
Oscar watched her go down the hallway before sighing and following her before she could trip down the stairs in front of the house. She was a lot to deal with sometimes, but if he was being honest, he'd do anything for her.
The two sat in the car silently and Tatiana could feel both worry and anger radiating off of him. A few streets later, Oscar pulled over in front of Cesar and Monse who looked surprisingly calm.
While Oscar talked to Cesar on the sidewalk, Tatiana limped towards Monse who just got off the phone. "Tati, be careful." The freshman said once she had noticed Tatiana was walking without her crutches.
Once Monse grabbed a hold of her and had her steady, Tatiana sent the younger a grateful look. "How you feelin'?"
"Freaked out is one way to say it. We were just walking, he rolled down the street out of no where, talked and then pulled a gun out." Monse explained. "Has this ever happened to you?" She asked the senior curiously.
Tatiana glanced over her shoulder at Oscar who was talking to Cesar, but caught her gaze when she turned around. "Yeah, but I think it's the price you pay for hanging around the Santos. I mean, Prophets bug me every once and a while but when I was closer to the gang, I was in your situation."
"How do you deal with it?"
"Well, after it happened a few times, Spooky gave me a gun that I carried around until he got arrested. You can't do much about it because they always find you. But the thing is, they won't kill innocent people so as long as you're not in the gang and you don't piss them off, you're somewhat safe."
Monse stared up at Tatiana in fascination and was about to ask her another question until the Santos leader called Tatiana's name. The 3 followed Oscar into the car and drove to Monse's house to drop her off. The other 3 stayed silent for the rest of the car ride, but all 3 were thinking different things.
Cesar was thinking about how he and Monse are potentially in danger, Oscar thought about how he waa going to keep Cesar and Tati safe and Tatiana was thinking about all the times the exact thing happened to her. She knew exactly what Monse was going through, but she wished she didn't.
Later that night, Tatiana and Oscar were laying on separate sides of the bed and both were wide awake. Nothing has been said since they got to the house and Cesar was a little worried since dinner was oddly quiet. The two just looked up at the ceiling I silence until the younger of the two broke it.
"Oscar, why did you break up with me?" The words came out as a whisper and if it were any louder in the room, they would've been inaudible. "I visited you every week when you were locked up and you broke up with me without an explanation."
Oscar didn't see her, but he could feel her looking at him even though the room was dark. "Because you deserved someone who wasn't going to put your life in danger. And I thought you'd feel free after."
When Oscar finally turned his head, he could make out her face due to the moonlight peeking through the window. He saw her shake her head before saying, "I didn't care what I deserved, I wanted you because I felt free with you. I still do."
Here's a short lil filler that I hoped you liked :)
