the hammock (lashton au) hiatus

chapter 1

I sighed, turning my phone off. i stood a few feet away from the meadow that was drop dead in the middle of the forest. its beautiful in the moonlight. the feathery green grass coming up to my knees, whipping and swaying in the breeze. you can see the dew droplets shinning in the grass. id always wanted to walk through it barefoot like this but im too scared.

while most people fear rational things like bugs and snakes,

i fear the darkness.

i sit down and brought my knees up to my chest, wrapping my arms around them. i lean my face down an nestle it between my knees.

I've learned not to be afraid of the forest at night anymore. Luke says if something wanted to get it would've by now. i know its not true but if i pretend like i believe i wont loose my mind before he gets here. if i don't make believe, every noise is amplified until im so far gone in my paranoia i loose myself and it takes all night to recover.

sometimes i get so lost in brainless thought i don't even see him coming until he-

"Boo" his voice sounds.

i don't even have to lift my head up to know he's plopped down right in front of me. nor to see the smirk i know is etched into his face. it doesn't stop me from visibly tensing.

"hello to you too, Lucas." i mutter out through shaky breaths.

im used to his always rather abrupt greetings but it still suprises me. im easily startled.

"off we go then? you look like you're gonna throw up" he says standing up and dusting off his jeans.

i nod, letting out a small chuckle,as he leans down to pick me up. i wrap my arms around his neck as he slides his arms under my back and knees. i lay my head in the crook of his need and immediately I'm engulfed in the smell of butterscotch.

im asleep before we even cross the meadow.

before we made it to the hammock.
