A week has passed from Arthur's first encounter with the Andersons and he had focused on his lessons with James mainly. He hasn't got to see (Y/n) since then, but he had the chance to eat one of her scones and they were delicious. The young Brit was playing with the thought of making some for her as a thank you.

In today's lesson Arthur's reflexes are going to be tested. He did surprisingly bad. When something came from the side, he wouldn't even notice. That is why he has some bruises on his body after 20 minutes of training.

James stopped the machines throwing constantly balls, shaking his head, "No. Nope. Naha. Just no." Arthur took in a deep breath and used his white t-shirt to wipe off his sweat.

They were in the same room, when they've first met. Its furnitures are floating above their heads, a spell Arthur might learn the next week. 3 machines, that were actually designed to throw tennis balls at skinny students to fuel the P.E. teacher's ego, were surrounding the blonde.

"You are horrible."

"Thank you, prof."

Arthur got a whole lot more sacratily since he was enjoying the time with James. The prof thought for a moment, "Well, since I am not the youngest anymore and don't want to move too much, (Y/n) is going to show you how it works."

Arthur raised a thick eyebrow, panting, "She is here? I haven't seen her." "Yes," James confirmed, "she prefers being alone than to socialize." With that James left, leaving the 14 year-old boy with his thoughts alone.

His mind couldn't really understand what has made the opinion of the magic council change. Why would they? Is it because they didn't want to lose too many guardians? His mind drifted off to (Y/n). Arthur had hoped to spend some time with her since she seems somewhat lonely.

A creaking sound rang in the young Brit's ears, so when he turned his head to the door, he was greeted with the figures of James and (Y/n). "H-Hey," (Y/n) waved awkwardly over to Arthur. "Hey," Arthur did the same. "Alright," James began, "step aside. Let her show you how it works."

All machines were on and balls were constantly being thrown at (Y/n). James asked, "Do you see what she does?" Arthur gave her a closer look, "She has her eyes closed." James nodded, "Correct, she does that to maximize her senses of hearing and feeling." "Isn't the ability to see more important to dodge?" "No," James shook his head, "As you can see, it does not matter." "Then how should I do it, prof?" Arthur asked.

"You are trying to think. You need to feel or rather just do instead of thinking the possible choices," James explained. Arthur nodded, understanding, but he was uncertain if he was able to do that. His prof stopped the machines and (Y/n) quickly said goodbye to go to her room.

Once again, the machines were throwing balls. Most of them still hit him, although he tried his best to dodge. Arthur's anger kicked in and he would have loved to just punch that stupid machine. But for a moment he just stood there, accepting the impact. Slowly, he closed his eyes and focused on the sounds. He dodged one. After closing his eyes, he was able to feel the breeze that came with the ball. So little by little, he was able to dodge more and more balls.

James observed the young Brit with curios eyes. "He might be ready...," he mumbled quietly to himself. With every ball that still was able to hit Arthur, he would let out a frustated yell. In the time James had spent with Arthur, he knew the 14 year-old boy was kind of a hot head from time to time. With more knowledge his future seems brighter than any of the students James ever had.

"I think that is enough for today," James said, turning the machines off. As Arthur opened his eyes one last ball hit the back of his head. "Bloody hell!" He cursed loudly, groaning in pain. His prof laughed to receive a glare from the blonde. "Okay," James started, "we make a break and then we start digging through the history of magic." Arthur nodded, going to his bag in which he had a water bottle and a sandwich prepared.

Centuries ago, in the medieval ages, a great war between diligents and guardians occured for over a decade. This great war happened because of a smaller conflict between neighbours, but in the heat of the moment it rupted to a mob. Words spread of the great war from one country to the next and in those countries followed revolutions of diligents or guardians.

In the beginning of the great war, diligents were winning, since they were greater in number of people to fight. Then, a disease swept the troops of most guardians and diligents from south-east Asia, but an unknown guardian of massive power overwhelmed an armada alone. From then on, most diligents were fearing to die by the guardians, so they switched sides. By doing so, they were imprisoned untill the war was over. When the majority of diligents were imprisoned their memory of any kind of magic was erased. Because of that, legends were created, mostly from obtainers who weren't aware of what they were gifted.

After the great war, a magic council in every country was formed to secure the safety of every guardian and obtainer, who were aware what they were feeling. Rules were established, but one of those rules were that guardians are going to be eliminated if ever demonstrating magic in front of diligents. These rules have been disobeyed for sevrale decades and demonstration have begun, blind to the diligents. Fearing a war between guardians, the magic councils have changed the rules to allowing a diligent the knowledge of guardians as little as possible and ereasing their relative's and friend's memory of said diligent.

Other things had happened after the great war in the definition of magic. Guardians'  magic split into three categories. The first one, and the most common one, is using magic as a weapon, which differs from guardian to guardian. Those are most likely to either be weak or have greater strength hidden in themselves.

The second one is healing , but this means as well having the knowledge of healing any kind of living being. Their knowledge consists of earthly medicine, often made by themselves, but most of these recipes are kept in secret, because they can be easily turned in poisin.

The third one, and the most rarest one, is seeing into the future. This does not mean to have the knowledge of everything, it means to know what happens the next few weeks. In addition to that, it gives a massive amount of damage to the guardian's body, which can in the worst case lead to death. Other than that they are especially fascinating in showing that they control that type of magic. Every guardian able to use it has a mark of some kind on their body.

---

Arhtur read the book in silence, while James was equiped with a newspaper. All furnitures have returned to the ground. "Prof, could I ask you something?" James folded his newspaper into one half to look at Arthur, "You just did, but you can still ask anything else." Arthur rolled his eyes, asking "Is it possible for a guardian to be able to use two types of the magic categories or even all of them?" "No, I haven't heard of someone being able to," James shook his head.

"What about magical creatures?" Arthur asked. "Well," James put his newspaper away, "not all of them are friendly, but they are all pretty harmless. Diligents can't see them either." "In the book it is said that they live in forests or at least in an area covered by plants. Does it mean it is possible that some live in parks?" Arthur asked again. James thought for a moment, "In theory, it would work, but remember they don't want to do anything with a human being. You might find a flying mint bunny if you are lucky."

Magical creatures like those have always peeked the intrest of the british boy since a very young age. He had always dreamed of having many as his friends. How they've evolved to the creatures known today is still a mystery. Theories were made, but none having a complete idea. The most well known ones are the unicorn, the flying mint bunny and the fairies.

A sneeze of his prof broke the 14 year-old's train of thoughts. He looked over to him, "Bless you." "Thank you," James shifted his gaze to Arthur again, "I think we have done enough for today. Tomorrow we will go to the pet shop at Temple Avenue. It's called Valu-Trac." Arthur nodded, collecting all his things and then saying goodbye.

After Arthur left, James looked around the room and his gaze lingered on the books Arthur was eagerly reading. "Filling them with lies to 'secure our safety'. Bullshit...," He mumbled, glaring at the books. James walked out of the room, walking upstairs.

There was a dark oak wooden door. James carefully placed his ear to the door. He could hear his niece's lovely voice speaking to someone over the phone. He smiled sadly and walked back to the living room. He sighed and took a seat again, thinking about the future with a narrowed eye.
