Before I update this book, I just wanted to take a moment to salute this Queen Mother called Winnie Madikizela Mandela. She is sooo iconic with her fist in the air shouting "Amandla!" which at the time got you arrested and killed. She stood and fought a system while her husband Nelson Mandela was away in prison. The world is only taught about about the heroism of Nelson but never about Winnie who was left to face her husband and black people's oppressors for 27 years. She didn't have the luxury to go into exile. She picked up the torch and ran when the men were in prison and others in exile. She was such a headache for the apartheid government that they vowed to tarnish her name and they did so by fabricating the lies about her. Her real history is hidden in the archives. Today as the world celebrates Nelson Mandela, I salute and celebrate Winnie Mandela. There is no Nelson without Winnie. May her truth be told, may her strength be shown and may she get the recognition and praise for her acts of heroism that she deserves! Rest In Power!
