Jisung twiddled his thumbs as he stared at the wall. The same wall that he always stared at. His mind was completely drained of thoughts. His only priority: stare at this wall.
"Jisung, please stop that. You know that we find it depressing." Jisung's roommate, Changbin, asked quietly from beside him. Jisung shifted his gaze over and looked him in the eyes before turning in his seat completely to look at him and his other roommate Felix.
Felix and Changbin. These were the only two people, aside from guards, that Jisung has seen since he was 7. They have been the only thing Jisung knows how to call friends. Cellmate would be a better description. He was fortunate enough to like his cellmates though, so he considers himself lucky.
"What am I supposed to do then Bin? It's not like this place is full of colors and board games. I have to make do with what I can."
"Staring at a wall and dreaming about a world we will never see is not good for any of us. You're giving yourself hope, and causing us stress because you are giving yourself hope. Please, just talk to us. Anything but staring at that damn wall." Changbin sounded stern, yet desperate at the same time.
Felix sat quietly, looking at his lap. Usually when they got snippy like this, he would chime in with some sort of joke to ease the air. However, it was different whenever one of them brought up the outside world. Felix hated thinking about the world outside of their cell. He's grown quite comfortable with his situation and would rather not think about all the teenagers having fun on the outside.
Changbin looked at Felix slightly after his small rant and his face faltered seeing him so out of it. Changbin hated seeing him like this. He knew better than to say anything but he did it anyway. If he was honest with himself, Felix is the only thing that has kept him (and surely Jisung too) sane these past 10-11 years. If it had only been Jisung and himself in a room, Jisung's dreamy and stubborn personality would completely clash with Changbin's cold and father-like one. Felix was the glue, and he honestly needed to stop spitting in the glue.
"Felix please don't pull that face, I'm sorry." Changbin said as he placed a hand on Felix's back. Felix quickly looked up, trying to gauge how he should act. He scoffed and put on a fake smile.
"What face? What Bin, you worried about me or something? I'm fine." Felix said with a fake smile that was fooling nobody. He had immediately resorted to his "make fun of him" tactic as he normally does when he's trying to hide a lie.
But Changbin didn't push.
"Fine. Look at your wall Jisung, I'm going to sleep." He said before climbing into his bunk.
Jisung smiled, feeling like he had won, before turning back to his precious wall.
Felix didn't want to stay up with his thoughts anymore, quickly following Changbin's footsteps and climbing into his own bunk. Not long after, the facility shut the lights off (minus a few in the corridor outside of the cells) as they do every night. Jisung isn't sure exactly what time they shut off, nobody is, all he knows is it means he should probably go to sleep.
Just as Jisung stood from his chair, he heard something odd from the hallway. He slowly creeped up to the window on the door. Let me put quotes around "window", because in all actuality, it was just three bars lines vertically over a square hole in the door.
Jisung didn't know why he heard noises, you never heard noises after lights out. Jisung finally gained enough courage and fully closed the gap between himself and the door, eerily wrapping his knuckles around the bars as he tried to catch a peek at the noise.
"Sh!"
Jisung screamed and fell backwards as a man, as quick as lightning, appeared in front of his door with his index finger over his mouth.
Jisung quickly shot his eyes to Changbin and Felix, sighing in relief when they were still sound asleep. He hesitantly stood from his place on the floor and came back to meet the man at the bars. The first thing he noticed was the uniform. The man was wearing an all white suit, just like the ones he and his roommates had to wear. Not the light blue uniforms the guards wore.
"Are- Are you a patient?" Jisung whispered.
"Patient my ass. Try prisoner." He scoffed back, rolling his eyes.
Jisung took a long pause before speaking again. "How are you in the hall...?"
"Don't ask questions that are irrelevant."
"How is that in any way an irrelevant question?"
"I said don't ask okay? You don't need to know."
"What are you doing in front of my door?"
"Well, I live in the cell next to yours, and I saw your little squirrel face peeking through the bars. Thought it would be nice to talk to someone new."
Jisung silently agreed. God it was so refreshing to hear a new voice. His heart sped up just at hearing the tones.
All the stunned Jisung could do was nod.
"I'm Minho." He broke the silence simply.
"Jisung."
"Well Jisung, nice to meet you." He said with a slight smile before poking his hand between two of the bars. Jisung smiled back and shook his hand before letting go.
Minho gave him one last smirk before retreating back towards his cell. Jisung listened like his life depended on it as he heard the slight squeak of a door before a click of it closing.
Jisung couldn't stop his beating heart.
He just saw a person.
A person that wasn't Felix or Bin.
He SPOKE to that person.
HE SPOKE AND SAW A PERSON THAT WASN'T FELIX OR BIN!
And that's when he passed out.
