Scene 2
Me: Dad's burial, the police investigation and all the drama that followed that fateful sunday morning was a real strain on the family, it destroyed my mother and put sam in a state where he wasn't speaking to anyone. As for me it made me look at life very differently, being that holy "do-no-wrong" girl didn't seem very appealing anymore. School was in session and i knew that at some point i had to go back.
Mum: "Vee" i know we are all grieving but life still has to go on. I hear school is in session?
Me: Yes mum, i intend to go back next weekend.
Mum: Have you heard from Dolapo and Sam?
Me: Yes mum, we spoke this morning. Dolapo was my best friend and to my mum so was Sam but in truth Sam and i were dating, i really cared about him but the relationship was platonic as we had decided not to go past first base. I was saving sex for marriage as i honestly believed it was the right thing to do. They had both been of tremendous help through this trying time, they were both at the burial and never left my side.
Mum: The family atm card is on the table in the study, take it and make sure you sort out Sam too as his school resumes in two days.
Me: yes mum we will all be ready.Thanks. Dad had made provisions for the family, we had an atm card that was used for general shopping and whatever else was needed by anyone in the family.
Mum: Please sort your brother out, i think he's written some kind of list. Vet it oh!!!
Me: Sure mum, Sam was known to be a bit extravagant when it came to writing lists for school. One time he actually asked for a ps4 and a flat screen tv. I called Sam and he handed over some scribblings he had put down, there was barely anything written down. Dads murder was taking its toll... I took the initiative and decided to buy the things he would probably need and maybe spoil him a little. I decided to drive out in Dads brand new custom made Range Rover Vogue, he wasn't going to be driving it anymore and mum hated the car so i felt there was a natural leanage for this particular ride. I arrived the department store to do some shopping for myself and sam, i parked outside and was walking when
i noticed an atm machine by the entrance and walk towards it to do something i had never done before, check the balance on that account, i punched in the code which incidentally was my birthday 0927 and what i saw opened my eyes to all kinds of possibilities N45,000,000. And this was just the house shopping account. Dad had worked so hard and achieved so much but was so humble yet he was murdered just like that. Maybe this life was meant to be enjoyed after all.
