A load noise made Gavin jump awake, dozily trying to reach for his phone to set the alarm off. Instead of grabbing his phone, he managed to make the phone drop and fall behind his couch. Now there was no other choice but to get up. Gavin groaned as he forced himself to get up, but he just fell back into his couch. Five more minutes should be fine, or? Today he will just interview the family of the missing person; therefore, he could stay longer at home. As he tried to fall back to sleep, something fluffy jumped right onto his face. Lucy, of course, she heard the alarm. The cat clung to his face, while she was lying on his chest. Gavin petted her kindly with his hands. Animals are the best company after all, he thought. They are loyal towards their owner and the love them, no matter if the owner deserves it or not. And if their owner dies, they also could have a depression, like humans. However, humans forget easier than animals.

"I will be always there for you." Gavin said as he pressed his head towards his cathead. He lifted her up into the air and put her softly on the floor. The cat meowed and run into the kitchen, waiting for him to make her breakfast. Gavin lifted his head and looked into Sumo's face. The big dog got used to sleep beside him on his couch. It was a long way until Sumo accepted Gavin as his new owner. The first few months he refused to eat anything that Gavin gave him, so that a vet had to come almost every 2 days to check on him. When the vet visited Sumo for the first time, the big dog was nothing but skin and bones. Fortunately, these days are over now and Sumo was happy every time he saw Gavin entering his apartment. Gavin also hired a guy who went for a walk with Sumo, and sometimes with his cat as well.

Gavin petted Sumo's head. "Come on big boy, we're going to have breakfast and after that we will go for a walk, what do you say?" Sumo barked and jumped off the couch, running towards the kitchen, where the cat was already waiting.

It was almost 9 o'clock when Gavin entered the police station, one hour later than usually. He worked late hours to be perfectly prepared for the interview today. Because of his lack of friends or other hobbies beside of his job, he had plenty of time for his cases. So he decided to not only inform himself about the family, he also inform himself about the other people again, who were reported as missing, just in case, if there could be a connection between the cases, which he had overlooked. As a result, he was more tired than usually. Maybe he could get more sleep on the weekend. As if. He will probably work on the weekend like always and if the interview will give him more hints today, he could do more investigations, so he should be fine.

Gavin opened the door to the police station and throw his jacket like always on his chair. Just as he walked to the break room, he heard a muffled voice, a voice that causes his stress level to rise high immediately. He totally forgot or tried to forget what happened yesterday. He turned around, just to see, that that fucking plastic waste was sitting on his chair, his arms crossed. Gavin also noticed that he throw his jacket on his face and found that this was more fitting than his usual face.

"Good morning Detective." Conan said, as he pulled down the jacket from his face. His eyes were still closed, which meant, that he was on standby the whole night and that he started up at the moment when Gavin entered the police station. "It seems that my strategy didn't work as planned. I decided to sit on your chair, so that I would get notice by you, when you enter the police station. Also he tried to set myself in your position – literally speaking." He opened his eyes and one side of his mouth went up, as if he tried to smile, but it just looked very awkward. "Oh, I thought, that humans find this nonsense quit funny."

"That IS funny!" Police officer Brown yelled with a sarcastic tone in his voice from his desk. "Keep going, Conan. However, I think that you will fail to make Gavin like you. He just hates everyone, but keep going!"
