I found myself leaning against my mom's old car which was now mine. I looked up and saw the sign that read

It had been almost a month since my mom's accident. No matter how many times I told myself she was gone, it still felt surreal. It was like living in a never-ending nightmare. My life had become a constant cycle of tears and sadness. I tried to remind myself that my mom would want me to be strong, but I didn't feel strong at all. I was scared because this feeling of sadness seemed to have taken over my entire being. I had no idea when or if it would ever go away. I felt like my whole world had crumbled before my eyes when I lost the one person I relied on the most. It was just me now, or so I thought.

My grandmother was an incredibly kind women as far as I could tell from the two weeks Id spent with her in Chicago, she had a way of making me feel at ease. There was something about her warmth and smile that reminded me so much of my mother. Speaking of my grandmother, I suddenly remembered that I was already running late. Angrily wiping away the tears that had managed to escape, I got back in my car and drove past the sign.

As I drove down the lengthy road, trees flanked my path for the first few miles. I couldn't help but question if I was headed in the right direction, so I took a peek at the map spread across the passenger seat. Glancing back over at the road I noticed a figure dart across the road ahead and had to think fast. I slammed on the brakes, lurching forward. After closing my eyes for a moment to collect myself, I peered up to find a boy in front of my car. He looked to be around my age, I couldn't help but notice his striking features - raven hair and captivating hazel-green eyes. His gaze was so intimidating that it sent shivers down my spine. I couldn't help but furrow my brows in confusion as he just stood there staring at me. What was he even doing running in the middle of the road like that? As I was lost in thought, I suddenly realized we were in a stare-off. Irritated, I made a bold move and motioned him to move aside. Finally, he broke eye contact and moved to the side of the road. Driving through, I looked back through my review mirror, still puzzled by the surreal encounter. I watch as he stood on the side of the road staring at my fading car.
