Damn Daniel, back at it again with the Pidge-ance...
_____________________________Two hours after the battle had ended, Lance was still a mess. Everybody noticed, but said nothing out of fear that they would simply make it worse. During breakfast, he poked at his pile of food goo while everybody else chowed down. Well, everybody else but Pidge. She wasn't near as heartbroken as Lance, but she still found it hard to make herself eat.
After breakfast, everyone retired to their own devices: Shiro and Allura discussed previous battles and current alliances, Keith found the training room, Hunk made his way to his lion's hangar, and Lance and Pidge both went to their rooms.
Pidge flopped onto her bed, face-down as soon as the door shut behind her. Normally, she'd be coding on her laptop right now, but after last night, she couldn't seem to make herself do much. She rolled onto her back and pulled the highlighter out her hoodie pocket. "I'm sorry," she wrote. Not two seconds after she wrote it, the message disappeared meaning Lance had erased it. He was officially broken.
She couldn't help the few stray tears that fell when he did this. The fact that he was this upset made Pidge feel sick to her stomach. The fact that she knew she was the one who caused it made it even worse. Then, she had an idea how to fix it. At least, she hoped it would.
Pidge stood up, wiped her face, and found herself in front of Lance's door. When she knocked, nothing happened. "Lance, it's me," she said just loud enough so that he'd hear her. There was a long pause, then after some ruffling and shuffling, the door opened and Lance appeared.
He seemed to be his usual self aside from the fact that his eyes were bloodshot. "Hey," he said sort of monotone, but with a fake smile, and moved over to let her in. It was dark aside from the tv and game console that were turned on.
"I'll never understand how you managed to hook that up before me," she said in an effort to distract Lance from himself.
"Wanna play a round?"
"Sure, why not."
Several levels later, Pidge was sprawled out on the floor next to Lance while he was leaned against the wall. They were both zoned in and about to finish the final boss battle. He didn't want to ruin her concentration, but Lance's curiosity got the best of him. "Hey, you never answered my question last night. You know, about your soulmate."
This caught her off guard, very off guard. She dropped her controller, causing her to be killed almost instantly, which caused Lance look over at her too long and him to die as well. Pidge was so shocked by Lance's statement and he was so worried about her that neither of them noticed the GAME OVER that was displayed on the tv screen. "Pidge, are you okay?"
She took a moment to catch her breath and shifted her gaze to the floor. "Lance, there's something I need to tell you," she said, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear and sitting up beside him.
"What's wrong?"
At a loss for words, Pidge, once again, pulled out the green highlighter and rolled up her sleeve. "Hey, goofball," she wrote as she looked up at him with hope in her eyes, hope that he wouldn't be disappointed or angry.
Lance's eyebrows scrunched together as he pulled up on his jacket sleeve to reveal that same message in that same handwriting.
This whole time... she's been right in front of me the whole freaking time...
He felt his eyes burn as bittersweet tears started to fall. He wrapped her up in his arms and pulled her onto his lap. Pidge immediately wrapped her arms around his necks and buried her face in his jacket.
When they parted, tears were still flowing from Lance's practically raw eyes, but this time he had a genuine smile on his face. Pidge cupped both her hands on his cheeks wiped his tears with her thumbs. They both started to lean in...
"Hey, Lance, have you seen P-Pidge?"
"HUNK!!" Lance screamed as both his and Pidge's faces turned the same shade of red as Lance's lion.
Hunk stood in Lance's doorway, pure confusion on his face until he finally realized what was going on. He broke into the biggest smile either of them had ever seen as he sprinted down the hall screaming "Keith, you owe me 20 bucks!"
Lance groaned and let his head fall against the wall as Pidge started laughing till her sides hurt, still sitting in his lap.
