The boy smiled while saying his name. He definitely was not American. He sounded British. I looked into his eyes for a moment. They were a very light mix of green and grey, but beautiful, might I add. I tried to observe him well without having to look him up and down repeatedly, which would creep him out.
I quickly snapped out of how mesmerized I was that he was introducing himself to me. He was really attractive, that, I couldn't deny. But, I'm sure he wasn't attracted to me. I'm just Mackenzie. Just little Mackenzie, whose insecurities get the better of her.
I decided I should probably tell him my name. ''Lovely to meet you, Michael.'' I smiled. ''I'm-''
''Mackenzie?'' He questioned.
''How did-''
''Your necklace'' he laughed, looking down towards the silver accessory dangling around my neck. It had my name engraved in it.
''Oh'' I chuckled, as I brought both my fists up to my chest, in a shy manor, I blushed. His mouth opened as if he were about to say something, only to be interrupted by someone behind us. I turned around to see a rather well dressed, slim, blonde haired girl, with a huge smile on her face.
''Michael!'' she beamed. I saw his little smile turn into a big cheesy grin as she ran towards him, with open arms. She wrapped her arms around his lanky frame, and he hugged back almost immediately. ''I've been looking for you! I see you've made a friend.'' She acknowledged me, and looked me up and down. But quickly smiled. Probably to cover up that she didn't really want me there. I suddenly felt really uncomfortable.
''I should go'' I began. Flashing a half smile.
''Sure, I'll see you around?'' Michael replied.
''Yes, of course'' I smiled as I walked away as quickly as possible, stopping the awkwardness from progressing.
Maybe that's what Michael was about to mention. He had a girlfriend. I mean, who wouldn't want to talk about their girlfriend if she looked like that. She was prettier than any of the models I'd ever seen on the front cover of those magazines. She had a bare face, no makeup. But she was naturally pretty. Something I was far from.

As I wandered off I thought about the necklace that hung around my neck. I had forgotten to take it off thismorning before I left my house. It is a heart shaped silver locket, which I had never opened. It had my name engraved on the front. It hung on a skimpy silver chain. My dad claimed it was expensive. I believed him, as it was so fragile.
It was a present from him. He gave it to me last year during the Winter holidays. He gifted it to me as a present for being a year clean. He kind of felt sorry for me more than anything else during my time of sadness, and didn't really care about helping me, as long as I got better sooner rather than later. He probably thought giving me something like this would make me forget about all the times he left me, all the times he never cared, but all i really needed was love, and that's something I never in my life have experienced.
Just then I was rescued from my thoughts as I heard loud cheers and suddenly the floods of teenagers scattered from the paths and made their way into the school. I followed close behind, looking around me every few seconds to make sure nobody was staring at me. I hated people staring at me, I was so awkward.
''Okay kids gather round, gather round'' A loud voice rang from the corner of the room. The woman was standing on a small chair. Kids? I zoned out after her small intro, and scanned the tight space. I caught a glimpse of Michael. He was already staring at me, smiling. I didn't know what to do so I looked away pretending I didn't notice him. So damn awkward. What I did notice, was, that he was still standing beside his girlfriend. She was so pretty. She had a tiny waist, and skinny legs. Something I always wanted. But I was too fat for everything.

After a while, we were given rooms to stay in. I was paired up with a few other girls. They were also very pretty. The room key was given to a blonde girl. Before I could introduce myself, the girls ran off together, rather excitedly. They were probably already friends. This would make it awfully awkward for me to start off with. I was a pretty boring person without everything else that went on in my life. But of course, they weren't going to find out anything. I realized I was the only one still standing in the main entrance. I shrugged as I dragged my feet towards a sign on the wall which stated ''rooms'' and had a blue arrow pointing towards a corridor. I prodded down the corridor, not caring whether I'd find the room sooner or later.
I guessed it at that moment, this was going to be one long, and lonely school term.
