Allow me to set the scene…

Year: 2062. Day: March, 25. Time: 3:59 AM.  It's been exactly thirty years now. Thirty years since the world's largest flood ever recorded hit North America; thirty years since seven nuclear explosions ravaged the west coast with radiation; thirty years since half of America was wiped from the map. But look at where we are now. No better than we were thirty years ago. You see, back then, the economy was booming, crime was to a minimum, and quality of life just couldn't get any better. But then came the fateful day of March 25, 2032. Tides,  some up to ninety feet tall, crashed onto the California, Washington, and Oregon shores. Before we knew it, the floodwaters had reached their deathly fingers as far as Arizona. Over forty million people lost their lives in this event. And just when we think we'd seen the worst of it, nuclear power plants lost electricity and began to overheat. One by one, they exploded, sending radiation waves through to Kansas. People became ill with radiation based brain sicknesses, which aren't contagious, but incurable in all cases. Climates change, making summers skin-meltingly hot and winters one hundred below zero. The economy fell, crime rates soared through the roof, hospitals filled faster than the nation could train doctors to cure patients. Sick people from the west migrated to the east, thinking it was seemingly better since it wasn't hit with the disasters. But nowhere seemed to be safe. The Cerebral Ailment Rescue Experiments became America's heroes, researching the diseases and making medications to alleviate the symptoms, though all of their efforts fell short to finding a cure to the fatal radiation. Well…generally fatal, that is.
