Confession & fear

The dock's  

Later that morning Astrid goes & finds Erit at the dock's, helping to unload the newest haul of fish, she lands Stormfly on the walkway & the baby dragons go rushing towards the ships in the hope of stealing sum fish that might have fallen from the nets & barrels, almost tripping people on the way. "Hay Erit, can I have a word?" Astrid asks as Stormfly goes to gather up her babies. "Of course" Erit answers, he already know what it was about & hoped Astrid would want to go somewhere quiet to have this conversation, he really didn't want the whole village to know what he'd been fantasizing about.

A crash from nearby makes Astrid realize that the docks aren't a good place to talk & she goes rushing to help sort out the problem, with Erit close behind, once they'd got Stormfly & the baby dragons under control & left Snotlowt in charge of getting all the fish unloaded, they head off towards the Great Hall, which is normally quiet between meal-times

The Great Hall 

Once at the great hall they settle in one corner close to the door with some ale, their dragons & the baby dragons sharing a barrel of fish beside them. "So Hiccup said we needed to talk" Astrid says after taking a sip of ale. 

"What happened last night when he came over?" "We talked" Erit answers nervously. "I confessed something that he thought it was best I told you about, which is why you're here now" "Right &?" Astrid asks. "What?" "What was it you confessed that Hiccup wanted you to tell me about?" Erit looks at her & says nervously. "It's hard to admit" "You told Hiccup" Erit sighs. "I didn't exactly come right out & say it, I was kind of reluctant & he worked most of it out himself & I just had to confirm it"

Astrid looks at him. "I did try & get it out of him but he says it was best if I heard it from you, so you might as well come out & say it" "Ok" Erit takes a big sip of his ale before taking a deep breath. "I think I'm in love with you" He says, Astrid's mouth falls open in shock. 

"Oh, um, well" She stutters, this wasn't what she had been expecting. "Please don't kill me" Erit says quickly. "Well if this was part of a vain attempt to persuade me not to marry Hiccup I would have, but seeing as you clearly wouldn't have told me if Hiccup hadn't told you to I think I will let you live" 

Erit looks at her happy. "Why would I try persuading you not to marry Hiccup?" Astrid smiles. "Isn't that what always happens? In the stories? The hero's in love with a women but she's marrying someone else & so he confesses in the hope she feels the same & tries to get her to call off her wedding & run away with him because the other man doesn't deserve her" Erit gives a small laugh. "If I was to do that it would suggest I don't think Hiccup's good enough for you" Erit says. "Well I'm glad you think so because I think so too" Astrid says before taking a sip of her ale.

"Seriously, the two of you are perfect together, & after everything the two of you have done for me I wouldn't dare do anything to throw all of that in your faces & destroy everything I've got here, Which is why feeling this way is such a problem, I thought if I just avoided you until I got over it, it would be fine" Erit exclaims. "& the reason you're telling me now is because Hiccup doesn't think so" Erit sighs & takes another sip of his ale. 

"What do I do Astrid?" Erit asks. "I want to be over this so we can be friends without this getting in the way" "I really don't know, the only over time I've ever had a guy think being in love with me was a problem I had to tell him it wasn't because I felt the same way, & now I'm marrying him" Astrid replies with a smile. "The other times I've helped guys get over their lusting is by using violence" Erit looks at here. "& I take it hitting me multiple times isn't something you want to do now?" "Doesn't seem fair on you really" Astrid answers.

Erit gives a small smile & Astrid reaches over to take his hand. "You're going to find some amazing women one day, who'll fall as madly in love with you as I am with Hiccup, & the two of you will have a long & happy life together" Astrid says giving Erit's hand a squeeze. "I hope so" Erit says, Astrid finishes of her ale & gets up, going over to where Erit is sitting, she leans down & gives him a gentle kiss on his cheek. 

"You'll be fine" She says straightening up, she turns round to see Hiccup leaning against the big main doors with Toothless at his side, smiling at them. "How long have you been their?" Astrid asks him. "Long enough" Hiccup answers with a smile, pushing himself up from the door. "Needed to have a word with the people in the kitchens & then I sore you two talking" 

"Yeah, we had a good chat, & now I really should get to the academy, got lessons to teach" Astrid gives him a quake kiss on the lips before calling for Stormfly & the baby dragons, who are busy playing with Toothless, to follow her out of the Great Hall, once they are gone Toothless goes over to finish off the fish, while Hiccup turns to Erit.    

"So, that didn't go too badly then?" Hiccup asks. "She was a lot more understanding than I thought she'd be" Erit replies. "Well that just goes to show you how much she cares about you, listen, I need someone to help me with furniture later if you're available" "Sure, I should be free later" "Great, I'll come & find you when I need you" & with that Hiccup gives Erit a friendly pat on the shoulder & heads off towards the kitchens, Toothless staying where he is so he can finish off the fish.

The forge

Once Hiccup had sorted out what he needed to do in the kitchens he is back at the forge, wanting to do more work on the morning gift, Gobber is there busy making saddles, a queue of people wanting to make an order right outside the window & his new apprentice doing his best to take them all & deal with smaller tasks people have.    

"Wow, when did it get so busy?" Hiccup asks as he comes into the building, Toothless already heading into the back room to get out of the way. "A lot of people won't nice now saddles so there dragons can look smart for your wedding" Gobber answers. "& there's not that many day's left" "I know, I can't what, & yet I've still got a lot to do to be ready in time & I could do with a bit more time" Hiccup says happily. "Well we better not stand here chatting if we both want to be finished in time, Oh, & don't stay too late & forget to eat something" "I won't"

 Hiccup then goes into the back room where he'd left all the stuff he needed to make the morning gift, he sits down & starts on it glad the things he needed to do war done meant he could work in the peace of the back room, It is still busy outside & Hiccup works until the noise dies down, signalling that nearly all the orders had been taken & knew Gobber & his new apprentice were busy getting them all done.

Hiccup wondered if he should go out there & give them a hand, knowing it was going to be tough for the two of them to get all the orders done before the wedding, the decision was made for him when he hears someone ask if the chief was there, It sounded urgent so Hiccup gets up & rushes out of the back room to see a young girl covered in soot standing there. 

"What happened?" Hiccup asks. "There's a fire at the academy" the young girl replies. "I was sent to get you & Toothless" "Ok, you'd better go find your parents, Toothless we need to go!" Toothless comes rushing out from the back room, & follows Hiccup out of the forge, Hiccup climes on & they fly up into the air heading for the academy as fast as they can.
