Sam and Dakota remain in the same position for a while, just staring at the fire and taking comfort in being together. At some point Dakota had gotten cold so she'd grabbed one of the blankets Sam had brought and draped it over her shoulders.

It lasts about an hour before Dakota inevitably stands up, letting the blanket fall from her shoulders to the ground. Sam furrows his eyebrows and he too stands up, facing the blonde with worry clear on his face.

"Are you okay, Kota?" He asks softly, Dakota just smiles and nods.

"Course I am." She replies. When he gives her his damn puppy dog eyes though, Dakota sighs, knowing she's going to give in. "It's just all this talk of family is making me miss mine. I just feel really bad about leaving them like that. I left a note, so they know it was my choice to leave and I wasn't kidnapped or anything, well that they know of."

"You just wish you didn't leave them behind." Sam finishes for her, completely understanding what she means. Dakota nods sadly, avoiding looking at him. "Hey." He uses his index finger to lift her head so she's looking at him. "I get it, and I am sure you'll see your family again, Kota. If you really care about them as much as you say you do, and I think you do, then you'll see them again."

Dakota nods slightly and Sam takes hold of her face gently as the two stare into each others eyes. After a moment they both close their eyes and press their lips together, Sam moves his hands from Dakota's face and onto her waist as Dakota's arms move to be around Sam's neck. She has to stand on tiptoes to reach him, but other than that they fit perfectly. It's slightly awkward, but it's perfect to them.

The flames from the fire, which have gone down a fair bit, light their faces up as sparks fly from the fire. The two runaways pull away from each other and laugh slightly.

"Sparks are literally flying, Sammy." Dakota whispers, pointing to the fire. Sam rolls his eyes but laughs despite himself.

"You're a dork." He grins, Dakota glares at him playfully, hitting him in the chest softly.

"Yeah, well so are you." She replies with a smirk making his grin widen as he lifts her up and puts her over his shoulder and runs towards the trees. "No! Put me down, Sam!"

Sam just laughs harder as he runs, refusing to put the squealing blonde down. "No! You love it!" He shouts playfully.

"No, I don't! Stop it! Sam!" She squeals, gripping the back of his shirt in fear of falling. "Put me down! You're gonna drop me!"

"No I won't, Kota!" He laughs. "Just trust me."

"You know I trust you, Samantha. But this is almost as terrifying as being kidnapped by Demons!" Dakota states playfully.

"Oh, sure it is." Sam chuckles as he weaves through the trees skillfully, making sure he doesn't let the girl over his shoulder hit any of them.

Finally though, he reaches the fire again and puts Dakota down, both laughing as Sam breathes slightly heavier than before from running with a teenager over his shoulder.

"You suck." Dakota states as a matter-of-fact. Sam grins at her as they both sit down.

"Well thank you, Dakota. I know you enjoyed that, no use in trying to deny it. You were squealing and laughing the whole time." Sam chuckles.

"Was not!" She protests, whacking him on the shoulder. "I was screaming. You were being mean." She tries to sound firm, but the laughter and amusement in her voice is barely concealed.

"Sure I was." Sam rolls his eyes in amusement. "You were the one squealing in my ear."

"Yeah, because you wouldn't put me down." Dakota reminds him with a huge grin.

"Well I am so sorry, your Highness. I didn't know fun was outlawed in your Kingdom." Sam snarks making Dakota's laughter louder as she struggles to breathe through the laughter.

"Stop it." She wheezes, finally letting her laughter come to an end.

Sam grins at her as she lets out a yawn and lays her head back on Sam's shoulder.

"Let me just put the fire out and we can head back." Sam suggests to the tired girl, she nods absently as she moves her head from Sam's shoulder and he stands up. Dakota lays across the log they sat on as Sam puts the fire out and collects the cushions and blankets.

Her eyes drift closed and eventually she drifts off to sleep, unaware of Sam lifting her into his arms and carrying her back and placing her in bed, removing her shoes and placing a blanket over her sleeping form.

Her eyes open blearily as he moves to get into his own bed.

"Sammy?" She murmurs sleepily.

"Yeah, Kota?" He speaks softly, crouching by the side of her bed.

"Stay with me." She pleads quietly. Sam smiles slightly and nods, placing a gentle kiss to her forehead and climbing into the bed beside her.

Dakota cuddles closer to him, laying her head on his chest, and Sam places his arm over her.

"Goodnight, Kota." Sam whispers, but she's already sleeping again.

Soon Sam is asleep too, and neither notice Bones curling up and the end of the bed and also falling asleep. Neither knowing of it until they wake the next morning, squashed closely together on the small bed, somehow managing to not fall off.
