My car was finally fixed in time enough for me to have this meet up with August. Thank God, 'cause I did not want to have to explain to Chris why I was going to this nigga's house. I knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer.
"Jayde, is that you baby?" August' aunt asked when she opened the door.
"Hey Aunt Sandra." I said returning the hug she gave me.
She stepped aside to let me in and called August downstairs. While I waited I took a look around to see what changed. There were pictures of me and August as kids next to all of his sports awards. I picked up the one picture I knew that held the most meaning to us because I still had it in my house too. It was a picture of us and Mel, we couldn't have been more than ten, or eleven. August was on Mel's back, and I was in his arms. We were all smiling like a bunch of dorks.
"I rememba' that day." I turned to see August standing just an inch or so away from me.
"Me too, you guys had just came back here to visit and I had been begging to hang out with you."
"Our folks was supa' busy so Mel told 'em he would watch us."
I smiled remembering me chasing August through the park and watching movies in our makeshift fort in his aunts living room when we got back.
"Trav, took the picture." August spoke quietly.
"Yeah, I remember 'cause he said he was too handsome to be in pic with some ugg-mugs like us."
I laughed at the memory before placing the picture back where it belonged.
"Okay, let's get to work." I broke the awkward silence.
For the next two hours we broke our project down into two parts, ten questions for him and ten questions for me. We decided what the layout for our article would be as well.
Chris: Baby!
Yes, lemon head?
Chris: You gone stop coming for my skin milk dud 👊🏾
I'll cum for whatever I want baby boy
Chris: 😳 👀 Just tell a nigga when mama
I rolled my eyes as I put my phone back in my purse.
"I hope you don't think that shit gone last."
"If I knew what you were talking about I just might care, nah that's a lie I still wouldn't give a damn."
"You and Chris, yeah I saw that shit. It ain't gone last."
Ignore him Jay, he's trying to get under your skin.
"Let's just finish this assignment before I make you bleed again."
"Awww what da' matta'? You don't like hearin' the truth? My boy gone fuck ya lil lonely ass, then leave ya desperate like ya always been."
"That's not true." My voice shook a little as I protested.
"You think he really want somebody like you? You just a quick fuck. Might even try to pass you to the team, but Yung gone pass on that."
"Fuck you August." I ran out of his house with all of my stuff. I don't need any more information I've already got everything I need.
The nerve of that nigga. If I wasn't so irritated I'd go back in there and give him a recap of what my hands can do. He's so fucking annoying and rude, I can't believe I was ever friends with him.
"Hi Daddy." I greet my father and kiss his cheek as I pass him to get to the kitchen.
"Hey baby how was school?"
"School was pretty good, what do you want for dinner tonight?" I look through the fridge scoping out what I can put together.
"Ehhh anything is good with me, Chris coming for dinner tonight?"
My dad loves that dummy. As soon as Chris and I became friends and he started hanging out at my house my dad treated him like the son he never had. These fools done had debates about who would win a game of one on one between LeBron and MJ. I'm anti LeBron so of course I went with big Mike when they asked me.
Pops want to know if you're having dinner with us?
Chris: Omw!
This nigga. All I had was mention food to get him here. While I marinated the pork roast my dad cut up the vegetables and shredded the cheese for me.
"So you finally gave that boy the time of day?" My dad smirked while he laid the potato sliced down in the pan.
"Yeah, I really like him Dad." My father and I have a very close relationship there's not much that he doesn't know about me I don't really keep secrets from him. With me not having my mom my dad is like my best friend.
"Good, I like him too, but don't let him hurt you. I don't wanna have to pull out my gat!" He yelled doing weird things with his fingers.
"Dad, you're not a thug please stop?" I laughed.
"That's what you think baby, ya daddy used to be a P I M P." He popped his collar as he spelled out pimp. Thank God for somebody knocking on the door.
"Ehhh I gotta get that." I sprinted to the door.
Chris was standing there with a pack of beer and flowers in his hand. I already know the beer came from his dad's stash.
"You're gonna get enough of stealing your dad's beer. Not to mention my Dad is still going through the last three cases." I smiled kissing his cheek as he gave me the flowers.
"I can't help it I feel wrong coming over empty handed." He kisses my forehead.
Dinner with Chris went as a usually does. My dad gave him a beer and told him to make sure he didn't tell his parents. We laughed at my father trying to make up some excuse as to why he never cooks. My dad teased Chris about every little thing he did around me.
"Movie date tomorrow?" Chris asked as I walked him to the door.
"Movie movie date or our kind of movie date?" I quirked my brow at him.
"Our kind of movie date. I hate people almost as much as you do." He smirked at my facial expression.
"My house or yours?"
"Mine."
Chris and I actually hate public places I just hate them a bit more than him. So by our kind of movie date we mean we'll hook my laptop up to tv and watch movie releases from some website. Or we'll find a show on Netflix to binge watch and we can't watch the rest of it with out the other.
"That means it's my turn to pick the pizza up."
"Yes ma'am. Snacks too." He stood in front of me holding my face in his hands. I still haven't gotten used to his touch. It sets my body on fire, in a good way.
Tonight was a good night I wasn't gonna ruin it by telling him about my run in with August earlier. It doesn't matter because August is wrong.
