Nino felt everything around him freeze as he took in this new revelation. He seemed to be having a lot of those lately, and he wasn't exactly sure he liked them. What other secrets were about to be revealed? He hoped they weren't as mind blowing as the mess he had just stumbled into.

His two best friends shared a soulmate song. Adrien and Marinette. Good. Great. He shipped them. That wasn't the problem. The problem was that Ladybug and Chat Noir, superheroes of Paris, has the exact same song as his best friends. Four people shared the same soulmate song, and that was impossible. His mom had told him so, the whole world new this fact. So why was reality suddenly turned upside down? First he was trying to sort out how three people could be soulmates, and now suddenly he had been promoted to four. Lucky him.

The only logical explanation he could make was that fate made a mistake. A giant one. Had the divine ruler who looked over this earth, whoever, whatever, that was, if there even was one in the first place, somehow messed up the soulmate songs of his two best friends? Superheroes? It seemed impossible, ridiculous to consider, but he didn't know what other explanation there was. It felt like there had to be one, was one in plain sight, right under his nose, but he couldn't see it for the life of him.

So either Adrien Agreste, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Chat Noir, and Ladybug were all soulmates, or destiny was all out of whack. Nino chose to believe the latter, because, frankly, the former freaked him out a little.

For some reason fate had given these four people one soulmate song, instead of dividing them into the two couples they were. And if this wasn't Adrien mixed up into all of this, if it wasn't his best friend, classmate, and two superheroes who he owed his very life to, Nino might not have cared at all. He would have felt sympathetic towards these four people who might not ever know who they belong to, who they're supposed to be with, but he definitely wouldn't try to help.

But this was Adrien, his best friend; Marinette who felt like the sister he'd never had; Ladybug and Chat Noir who deserved the world for how many times they've saved it. And he was already roped up in this mess anyway, so... he decided to help. At that very moment, when Marinette was strolling toward him with a mystical smile plastered on her face, Nino made a promise to himself that he was going to figure this whole mess out.

This left a load of confusion for him to sort through, and Nino was starting to feel overwhelmed. Who were the correct matches? There were so many different options tangled together in a love triangle, square, hexagon, just a giant web of confusion that he didn't even know what to do about it.

He was about to sort through them, trying to figure out what could be correct, when Marinette spoke to him. The sound of her voice brought him out of his daze and into the real world again.

Right, we still have school, he thought. Marinette's startling blue eyes were looking down at him in concern. Great.

"Nino?" she asked hesitantly. "Are you okay?"

"Sure," Nino said, quick to answer her, reassure her. He could tell she wasn't convinced by the way she continued to stare at him.

"Are you sure? Because you were kind of just staring into space... You know the bell rang a few minutes ago, right?" Her eyes swept back toward the school, a crease forming on her brow.

"Oh, yeah. I know we have class. But I, uh... sort of fell asleep, and so I thought I'd wait for you. You're always late anyway," he said, reassure her with the teasing comment. He gave her his best "annoying friend" smile. She didn't return it.

"Okay..." She paused for a second, as if giving him time to confess, to tell her what was going on, which he suddenly kind of wanted to do. Who better to help him with this whole soulmate business than someone who was mixed up in the whole thing? But he didn't want to worry Marinette. He knew how much she liked his best friend and didn't want to overwhelm her with the fact that she might be tied to someone else. To two superheroes. So he didn't say anything. "Well, I'm here now, so we can get going," she continued after he didn't say anything, her suspicious eyes still not moving from his face.
