5. Strange Encounter

(Long Chapter)

Y/N and Popplio watched Sun and his pokemon train out in the beach in front of Kukui's home. It was a late evening so the sunset was beautiful looking as it set. 

"Litten use Ember! Rowlet, try to avoid it!," yelled Sun. Y/N watched as Litten jumps in the air, the fur on his back stand and turn red. Litten then opens his mouth and fires a small ball of fire towards Rowlet who quickly dodges it while flying in the air. Sun grins, proud of his pokemon and himself. He turns to his sister with a smirk.

"You see that sis? Me and the guys will be strong in no time!"  She smiles at him, giggling. "No doubt. This our first time owning pokemon, and you've been very responsible for them," she says proudly. Her brother nods and looks around. 

"...Hey, where's Professor Kukui? I didn't see him inside the house. Did he go out?"  Y/N shrugs. "He's gone most of the time," she responds. Sun sighs, taking off his hat. His eyes went wide, frowning. "Great, there's a hole in my hat."  Y/N walks closer to him and examines the hat. The hat used to belong to their dad, so it kinda mattered that it was starting to get old. 

"Ah, don't worry Sun," she says calmly. "Professor Burnet knows how to sew, so she could probably help you out. In the meantime, I'm going to Hau'oli City to get some poke puffs for our pokemon."  She hands back the hat to Sun and starts to walk off. He looks at the hat and then at her. "Wait, let me come. It's getting dark soon and there might be creeps."  Y/N rolls her eyes, still walking away.

"If there are creeps, dad taught me to kick them in the groin. I'll be back."

As Y/N and Popplio looked through the glass panels deciding which poke puffs to choose, she thought about her classmates in trainer school. They were all very nice and welcoming. However, she was worried about Sun who didn't try to talk to them at all. He was still angry about the whole situation, and isn't accepting the fact that they are now living in Alola as orphans. But she couldn't stay mad at him, it was understandable.

After choosing the right poke puffs, they walked back to Kukui's. It was starting to get a bit dark, so Y/N made sure to get there quick. They have only been in Alola for a week or so, but it's better to stay safe until she gets familiar with the area. 

She and Popplio looked around admiring the beautiful night. It reminded her of Lapras as they would be outside at night staring at the stars back in Kanto. Suddenly, Y/N heard snickering which made her snap out of her thoughts. She turned around and saw three people dressed as thugs wearing black and white with a skull-like theme standing behind her. They had bandannas on their face and wore hats. 

"Well, what do we have here?,"  said one of them, a female grunt. The others who were males nodded and did some kind of pose. "Yo Zipp, it looks like a girl, am I right or am I right?," said the blue haired one. Zipp, who was the overweight one nods happily.

"Right!"

Y/N stepped back slowly, holding Popplio tightly in her arms. The female grunt glared at the boys annoyingly and smacked them in the head. "Stop fooling around! Of course she's a girl!"  They rubbed her heads sadly. "S-sorry Rapp."  

She sighed and turned around, only to see Y/N running away.

Rapp freaked out. "H-HEY! Get back here!"  She and the others quickly chased after Y/N who looked back nervously. "What do I do, what do I do!?," she said anxiously. She looked around for help but didn't see anyone. She looked down at Popplio who was also scared.

Popplio doesn't have any battling experience, we'll be easily defeated even if I had faith in the little pokemon!

"Someone please help!," shouted Y/N. Not knowing where she was going, she noticed that she was heading towards a corner of a building. She stopped running and turned around, seeing the group catch up to her. Zipp breathed heavily, obvious that he didn't work out too much. Rapp sighed tiredly and pointed angrily at Y/N.

"You have...nowhere to..run...so give it...up!"  

Y/N backed up, leaning against the wall. She froze when the blue haired grunt took out his pokeball, sending out a Salandit. "Yo girl, you sure got me mad! My name is Tupp, now get ready for this Fire Blast!"  Salandit opens its mouth and creates an orb of fire and then launches it towards her. Y/N closes her eyes and without thinking yells "Water Gun!"  Popplio quickly shoots water from its mouth in hopes to put out the flame. Unfortunately the flame was too strong and big and it only ate up the weak stream of water. Y/N noticed and hugged Popplio tightly.
