COOPER

“I really don’t understand him, man. I mean, what the fuck was he thinking?”

“Your guess would be as good as mine, Coop.”

I let my sight wandered across the ground towards the small yet rambunctious five-year old girl running around the large sandy playbox smacked square in the middle of the playground. Another girl probably around her age decided to tag along and tried to chase after her, tailing from behind but a bit more limited in speed since the first girl wasn’t wearing a cute princess dress.

Who would let their kids run around with a princess dress anyway?

I don’t see anyone looking over the beautiful tiara girl – she’s probably just run out from her birthday party out to the park – so I guess I had to mind both my little sister and her then.

I groaned a bit from the pent-up frustration but Shawn wasn’t so surprised by it. He simply sat on the childish swing – his hands gripped the metal sides tight and smiling to himself for no reason without really bothered to launch himself into the air while I was grumbling alone by the wooden bench.

I guess it’s gonna be a really long day if I have to mind for him too.

“Shawn, you’re supposed to be on my side.”

“I know Coop, I know. He’s your brother man, I can’t tell him to do anything. You should know that by now.”

“I am not asking you to convince him to do anything, man. That kid is just a fucking pain in the ass.” I huffed back, feeling more indignant that he was being his usual casual and carefree self. It wouldn’t irritate me so much but at the moment he was being slightly more insufferable somehow.

I didn’t want him to take sides either but he needed to know where his loyalty supposed to be. He had been my best friend for the longest of time. I rummage my hands through the untamed, thick, curly and hideaous shit I called my hair, though I wouldn’t dare pulling them too hard by the roots.

Sometimes it’s best not to get your fury got the best of you and inflict pain on yourself. Yeah, that’s not cool at all but letting it go all out once in a while would be acceptable.

“Coop, you need to be the bigger man here. Just let it go will you? It’s been like what, a week already?” He crossed his legs while he lean back a bit into the empty air behind him while both his hands were balancing him on the swing set.

“Yeah and I haven’t heard anything from Jer since! Not even a fucking a text!”

“Chill it down with the curse words, will you? There are kids around in case you haven’t noticed.”

He shook his head and hung it low, looking straight down to the ground as if he was throughly disappointed at me. I clenched my teeth and sucked on them, focusing on not to be so pissed off by the way I’ve been dealing it.

Shawn was somewhat right there. Maybe I was overreacting and overly concerned about it. I know I should have learnt my lesson and I shouldn’t be making this a huge deal but I couldn’t really help it. Wyatt really blew it this time around.

I was so embarassed I didn’t have the guts to text Jer anymore, not unless he texted me first. It was an excruciating wait and we’re now back to square one. He must have thought that Wyatt have some feelings for me.

“Coop, all I can say is that Wyatt might have a valid reason for acting that way.”

“A valid reason? He has been pestering me non-stop since I came out to him that day outside your place, man.”
