Evidence #2

Strict Parents and Parenting Styles
(Japan and USA)

Now time to prove how Dadsuki is a strict parent by both Japan and USA standards. This section will show how culture effects parenting habits, and the trends of Natsuki's behavior and actions.

(By the way guys thank you all for the 336 views! Sorry for not being active for almost a week and I'll just make it up to you guys by making updates! I'll just update again tomorrow. Depends if I have time tonight)

Age of Consent and Curfew in the U.S.A and Japan

As you recall, the incidents of Natsuki' dialogue and behavior, many remember her stating that "I would really... stay here longer if I could", and "Yeah, right. Like I could have a guy over my house... My dad would kill me." You may be indicating that this is overly controlling behavior, but behind every action there is a motive.

In DDLC, Natsuki is 18 years old, and there is no mentioning of her mother. This may imply that Dadsuki works an average day job, 9 to 5 shift as an example. In Japan, the age consent to any sexual activity is 13, while in the USA, it is 18. Natsuki is able to legally engage in sexual activity both the USA and Japan. Additionally, in both the USA and Japan have laws enplaced for minors under the age of 18 for USA and 18-20 for Japan.

The reason behind providing this information is to demonstrate why Dadsuki is overly controlling. With this information in mind, it seems odd that Dadsuki would allow Natsuki to go over a boy's house, allow her to take a bag with baking supplies, and give Natsuki a phone. This connects to the accusations of abuse. Dadsuki being the strict parent but having to attend work, allows Natsuki, with the baking supplies, to go to MC's house, yet with the condition of the curfew. If Dadsuki was being abusive, he wouldn't even dare to give Natsuki a phone, due to the uncertainty of her calling the police or informing others of abuse.

Japan and USA views on Manga

Recalling the scene where Natsuki says that her father would be mad if he saw her reading the manga, Parfait Girls, it does seem odd that he would be upset, but is it due to culture?

In the USA, manga and anime have been a bit of the subject of controversy due to certain types of this art form being used. If DDLC was to take place in the US, Dadsuki would share a bit of the negative opinions regarding manga. This is also seen in Japan, though it being one of the largest region where variety of mangas are being produced. In Japanese culture, in various households, they believe that children that are 15 and older are considered adults. Also in Japan, they seem to also share a similar viewpoint of manga, mainly believing that it's meant to be read throughout teenage and childhood years, not in adulthood.

This information would show how Dadsuki would be upset about Natsuki reading manga. Since Natsuki is at the age where she is expected by society to grow up. Dasuki is trying, to show her that she has to give up certain hobbies and interests, as she grows ups.

Encouraging Hobbies

We can see the encouraging hobbies that Dadsuki approves such as joinibg after clubs and baking. The reasoning behind this is through logical analysis. Firstly, if Natsuki was being abused, she will have to go straight home from school. As stated before, children who are being abused at home, are unable to join clubs such as the literature clubs or attend festivals. If Natsuki was actually being neglected, it would make sense. Additionally, we have to assume that Natsuki brings her baking supplies from home, due to it being less likely that she borrows them from the school. If Natsuki was being abused, her father would not provide these luxuries for her. Natsuki's creativity and skills in baking can not be developed in an abusive household. Thus, this demonstrates, Dadsuki's encouragement of hobbies he finds appropriate for Natsuki.

Throughout the information provided, this shows how Dadsuki is a stern father who placed rules on his daughter for her own good, who encourages his daughter to do hobbies she enjoys and how he follows various cultures opinions and laws. Additionally, he is a father who is struggling as much as his daughter in their relationship.
