NAERI POV

(let's imagine that two weeks have passed since the breakup, okay?)

it's prom night. the final party for us, high schoolers, when we all can get together and have fun for the last time as a collective.

everything seems to be normal. eunbae and chenle don't talk. he stopped being so obsessive and annoying. me and eunbae became friends. my crush, jaemin, asked me to become his prom date. any other miracles?

my life started to be normal again, and i didn't even need to confront chenle. maybe the breakup actually meant something to him? i doubt that, but i still want to believe that he is not like me.

'so, naeri, do you have a prom date?' eunbae asks me, with a smirk on her face.

'actually, yes.'

'omg, who is it?'

i smile and turn to face her.

'you know this guy from group 3?'

'no way!' she gasps, 'are you going with na jaemin?'

i try my best to hide a smile, but eunbae can see through me like an x-ray. she squeals and hugs me, as i do the same.

'congrats! you are so lucky!'

'thanks!' i answer, 'do you have a prom date?'

eunbae's face expression suddenly changes, and with that the vibe in the whole classroom changed too. she turned away from me, quickly put a piece of her hair behind her ear, and awkwardly chuckled.

'uhm...no...i wasn't planning on going...'

i nod my head, realizing that i might've asked an inappropriate question, as she is probably still traumatized by the breakup. dang, why are you so stupid, naeri?

'oh, come on! screw prom dates! you should go and hang out with me! friends are the best, am i right?'

we both laugh and hug each other.

'if you want, i can cancel my date with jaemin-'

'no, no, no! i'm going to be fine alone. i will come, and hang out with both of you, is that fine?'

'yea, sure.' i answer. but i still can't stop worrying about something...

what if he is going to come? how will eunbae feel about that?

you know what? screw him. it's the last night in our school year, when we are allowed to have fun. and nobody, i repeat, NOBODY is going to ruin it for me and eunbae. she deserves the best.
