NAERI POV
'oh, by the way, my friend asked me to pick him up too, do you mind that?'
i fastened my seatbelt and looked in the back seats, stretching out my hand to greet him.
'naeri mun, nice to meet you!' i said, smiling so widely, i couldn't see anything.
'we've met already.'
my eyes widen as i hear a familiar voice.
'what? you and chenle know each other?' i could hear jaemin ask me.
chenle..?
'y-yeah, kind of...' i stutter, as i look at eunbae. she was looking down, avoiding eye contact with anyone inside the car. i turn around, letting out a heavy sigh and looking at jaemin. he started his car and we drove right to the venue.
the whole ride i've been thinking about eunbae. she sat right next to him. to the person she still loves so dearly, but at the same time hates to death. it looks like she is even a little bit scared to be next to him.
chenle, however, didn't care at all. he talked with jaemin, asked me questions, which i tried to avoid at all costs, but didn't acknowledge eunbae's presence in the car. it felt like she vanished for him. after the breakup, he ignored her to the point, when he would forget her name. isn't that hella painful? when a person you care about the most forgets your name, or just you in general? isn't it painful to realize that the time you spent together didn't, doesn't, and won't mean anything to them?
of course. of course it is painful. it's probably more painful than any physical trauma. such things mess with your brain, mess with you and overall drain you. that's what eunbae feels now. emptiness and pure sadness.
some time later we arrived to the school grounds. as soon as jaemin stopped his car, eunbae rushed outside to breath some fresh air. i excused myself too, and went to talk with her.
she walked quickly, avoiding my screams, right behind the main building. she checked if anyone except me was near, and fell to the ground, tightly grabbing her hair. i quickly ran up to her and sat near, trying to bring her back to her senses.
'hey, hey, stop it, everything's fine...'
'i can't, i can't take this anymore, i don't want to suffer, naeri, i really don't! i'm tired of everything and everyone, i just want to be left alone!'
'the only thing you really need right now, is someone being with you. to help you go through all of this. i'm going to be that person. screw chenle, he does not deserve you. you are such a bright, talented and beautiful girl, you will totally find someone better, who is going to care and love you for whom you are! believe me!' i shook her shoulders, as tears dropped down both my and her cheeks. she shook her head in a negative way, pushing me away from her.
'i knew going here was a bad idea, why would i even believe you?!' she whined, putting her head on her knees, completely ruining her own makeup. my head tilted down by itself, as i turn away from her.
'because you went here to have fun with me, not to think about chenle. he doesn't deserve your attention anyway...'
she looked up at me, with her eyes full of tears, cheeks and nose so red and puffy she looked like a tomato. but like a cute tomato.
i smiled at her, wiping away the tears from her cheeks with my thumbs, and hugging her so tightly, i could hear her bones crack. after i let go, she chuckled, then looked at me once again.
'let's make this night the best night of the whole school year!'
