The cure worked. It really did. We felt like geniuses. I could not describe how elated I felt. As we were walking out of the room, on Emmiera's last day of observation, James pulled me to a corner, pressing me against a wall.
"A lot has been going on." He said, twirling my brown hair between his strong fingers. A wave of excitement engulfed me. What was he doing? We were so close. A strange feeling welled up inside me and I shivered.
"Yes?" I asked, hardly waiting for the answer.
"I never told you...I..." James started.
"You?" Oh, the thrill of being this close to my crush. My doubts about having a crush on my brother's best friend floated away like helium balloons.
"I love you, Ryn. I really do." He whispered, bringing my body away from the wall, closer to him. Holding my waist, he kissed me. Our lips touched, and I was wearing lip gloss. I hoped the scent was nice for him. When he let go, I told him, "I love you too. Thought you should know."

Hospitals were in full business. People streamed in to get their cure. And some of the water plants got treated too. The world was healing itself. There was still a big gaping hole in the world's population. Many had died during this epidemic. Those few groups of people in the jungles or forests, will they ever get the cure?
We needed time. Everything takes time.
The world would be healed again. The world would be fine again.
And there was an important meeting with the Leaders, making sure that something like this. would never happen again. I dressed my best, looking smart. We went into the room where the meetings would take place. Chandeliers hung from the ceilings and there were comfy chairs for us to sit on. Soft, melodious music played in the background, calming me from my nerves. Rinco sat beside me, Gryer on the other side. Slowly, the leaders streamed into the room. Leader Kate, Leader Zach, Leader Penelope and Leader Josef. And there was Leader Gareth. But behind Leader Gareth was a beautiful woman with platinum blonde hair. Her grey eyes shone with hope. That woman was by the name of Leader Renay. A circular plaster on her left arm showed that she had gotten the shot in time and now, she was fully healed. Rinco's legs did not seem able to lift from the ground. It shook with an alarming force.
"Coco, are you alright?" I asked. She was scaring me.
"Yeah, I'm just...it's hard to describe," she replied.
I knew that feeling . That feeling of seeing someone you loved after thinking they were gone? It cannot be described. I was there.
Rinco
Imagine the shock when I saw my mother standing among the other leaders, smiling happily. When I regained my composure, I immediately went there to embrace her.
"MOM" I squealed, hugging her tightly. Tears cascaded down my cheeks like the Hydroswell rain. The droplets falling, making wet spots in the carpet. I could feel wet tears on my head and I knew my mother was crying too.
"Thank you, darling. You saved my life," Renay told me.
"I thought you were dead!" I sobbed.
"I held on, just for you. Remember my promise?" She asked as memories flooded back.
"If there was a cure, you'd come back," I said.
"And I did." She reminded me.

After the meeting, my mother and I went out to watch the sunset. The sky was a palette of colours. Pink, orange and yellow streaks decorated the sky. The sun, an orange balloon, was like it was deflating but never changing its shape as it went down. Renay took my hand and held it tight.
"We'll be a family again. Your dad, you and I."
I just smiled and pointed to the sky.
Silently, we watched as the sun disappeared behind the buildings.
Was this moment all fate? Was it fated to be this way?
Braincracking questions aside, I asked my mom, "Have you heard of Jonathan Reese?" Renay nodded, "He was one of those who discovered the cure, am I right?" I nodded and said softly, "He is also my boyfriend."
"Perfect fit." Renay declared.

At the other side, James and I were watching the sunset. I took his hand in mine but he let it go, insisting that I lay on his shoulder. He put his hand around my waist and we watched the golden ball of fire disappear behind the skyscrapers.
"We can do this every day," he said.
"I was thinking the same thing." I told him. Cheekily, he shushed me, pointing to the rainbow-coloured birds in the sky.
"Shronbirds, how rare." I mused.
"Especially for a moment like this." James replied.
The shronbirds would make me remember, this breathtaking, exhilarating moment. A moment with James.
Yep, that's the end. Thanks for reading
