"Do you want to leave?" Alana asked cautiously, taking note of his paralyzed state. Laurent didn't answer her. He just stayed in the same spot for a while, his eyes staying locked on the hardwood table. He was doing everything he could to merely process the fact that Larry was alive; the Larry that he murdered, or attempted to murder. But he was just talking to him a few minutes ago, and that as real as it could get to him.
Laurent's tears we're endless as he replayed the image of his face in his mind. His face still look the same; the nose, the eyes, the lips, everything. He still looked like he did the last time he saw him, just more matured. And that scar... that was the most painful reminder of what Laurent did to him. It was a thin scar, but it was dark, and you can tell what happened to him if you got close enough. Nobody is just going to have a scar like that going across their throat like that unless someone really wanted them dead.
Laurent wanted him dead, needed him dead. He didn't want to see his face ever again in his life, and he didn't. For years, he went on like nothing ever happened. Like he didn't even have a brother, like he never felt like his other half was missing. Now that he's seen him, up close and personal after so many years, he didn't know if he wanted to hug him, scream at him, or cry and apologize for what he did.
"Let's go," Laurent said quietly. He stood straight and his eyes met Alana's as he held out his hand. Alana nodded and she took his hand gently, standing up from the seat. She walked behind him as he stalked through the tables, his eyes looking down at the ground. He said not a word as they left the restaurant and Alana was growing more and more nervous by the minute. The atmosphere changed from playful and happy to empty and painful. She placed her hand over her belly as they walked to their car and she rubbed it in an attempt to calm her nerves. That was habit she picked up from Laurent about month ago. Whenever she was nervous or she was stressed, he'd rub her belly to calm her down, and it always worked.
Laurent took his keys out of his pocket and he unlocked the car, opening up the passengers door for Alana. She smiled up at him half-heartedly and she stepped in front of him, bending down to get in the car.
"Wait!"
Both Alana's and Laurent's heads snapped towards the direction of the voice and Laurent wished that he was moving a little bit faster, so he wouldn't have to see him again. Alana looked up at Laurent and she watched as his expression fell when he saw his brother, his Adam's apple moving up and down as he tried to swallow down his nerves.
Larry was putting his jacket on as he walked over to them, his eyes staying locked on Laurent as he did. He still had on his uniform, a simple white button up shirt and black slacks. He was breathing heavy as if he was running, and once he neared them, he ran a hand over his face, shutting his eyes briefly before opening them again.
"We have to talk," he said softly.
"About what?" Laurent asked. His voice came out weak as he spoke and Larry's heart ached at the sound of it, causing him to look away from him for a moment.
"I want to explain," he replied. "Everything. I have to."
"How..." Laurent trailed, his expression turning into on of confusion. "How you alive?"
"I don't know," Larry said honestly. "The last thing I remember is call an ambulance on my phone when you leave."
"So you feel everything," Laurent said. "The pain, you feel it until you get to the hospital."
"No. I could not feel nothing. When I wake up in the emergency room, they tell me I was dying slowly, but I was in shock and could not feel nothing. My heart would have stop if they did not come when they did."
