(skip to 8:50 to see Larry's choreography)
✝
"I'm nervous, bro," Larry breathed, running a sweaty hand over his face. "What if he don't like it?"
"Stop, Larry," Laurent sighed, leaning his head against the mirror. "You say that for five minutes. He will like it."
"Are you sure?"
"Larry," Laurent chuckled. "Stop. Don't stress."
Larry nodded once, intertwining his fingers. The amount of nerves rushing through his veins was unhealthy, and he could feel his heart beating so hard in chest he felt like he was about to pass out. He'd never really... auditioned for anything before, and being waitor was the only job he ever had since he came to the U.S. The main reason he started dancing was to relieve stress, and it helped a lot. Whenever he was angry or upset, dancing was what he turned to. Now that he opportunity to turn it into a career and teach it to other people much like his brother, and he didn't think he was ready for it.
He opened his mouth to speak to Laurent, but the sound of the studio door opening cut him off.
"Laurent," someone said, earning a hearty laugh from Laurent. A big smile graced his face and he stood from his spot on the floor, walking over to the short man. They dapped each other up and they exchanged a few words before the short man looked over at Larry, giving him a smile.
"You must be Larry," he said, walking over to him. Larry stood up and he nodded, holding out his hand for him to shake.
"Yes," Larry said.
"I'm Jordan," the man said, shaking his hand. "I run this half building. Well, kind of. I'm in charge of the dance sections of it."
Larry nodded and he run a hand through his twists, shaking them out. "So um.. Lau tell you that I was look for a job?"
"He did," Jordan said. "I've also picked out the students for you. All you need to do is come up with a choreography in an hour, and teach them the moves as well."
"Okay. Do I pick music?"
"No, I pick it."
Larry's lips firmed an 'O' shape and he nodded. "Okay. I guess we can start."
"Great," Jordan said before walking over to the door, poking his head out "You guys come in now."
Larry and Laurent watched as about fifteen or twenty students entered the studio one by one, taking up the middle of the it. It was a mix of kids, teenagers, and adults. He recognized some of them from the day taught half of Laurent's class.
"This is a mixed group, "Jordan said. "As in, some of them are beginners, some are advanced, and so on. You will be working with them for the entirety of this. If I like how your choreography comes together, you're hired, no questions asked. If not, you can come back again in a month with a better choreography."
Larry nodded and he looked over the heads of the students, making sure everyone could see him. He couldn't mess this up at all. If he did, he would be jobless and broke for a month and that was the last thing he needs.
"Okay guys," Larry sighed turning to face the mirror. "Let's get started."
✝
"One more time, guys!" Larry shouted over the music. The students nodded in response and he turned to Laurent who was standing by Larry's phone. He gestured foe him to rewind the music and he nodded, bring the little circle all the way back to the beginning of the line.
Larry sighed and he turned around, looking at the digital clock on the wall. It read six fifty eight; he had two minutes left to perfect his choreography. From the start, everyone seemed to do it perfectly and no mistakes we're made. He just hoped that it was the same for when it all came together.
