chapter one: airport troubles

>>

"Can we please stop trying on weird things and finally make our way to the plane?"

The group all perked up, looking over at the figure who was leading them through the airport. A small scowl was on her features, the whole process of guiding the group through the airport failing at its finest.

"Well, yes, but—"

"We're going to be late!" Jessica proclaimed, taking away a pair of aviator glasses from Max's hands.

"We have three minutes left," Karen then spoke up.

"I mean, it is better to be safe than sorry, I suppose?" Max added, ending his statement in more of a question.

"But, if we leave now, it all will be boring once more and the plane won't have wifi so, ya' know, it won't be fun." Jackie perked out, taking a notebook out of the small organizing cabinet.

She recieved a few confused stares, but she waved them off to continue on their argument. Whilst she seemed busy on picking out items for her friends, Max was busy trying to get the sunglasses out of Jessica's grasp.

"These aren't quite creative," Jessica said, trying to dodge Max.

"They have a pilot hat attatched to it, how is it not creative?"

"Hello, yes, we're going to be late!" A new voice exclaimed, everyone's glance falling onto Colin. With a small smile, he shrugged.

Everyone slowly filed out of the airport gift shop, a few purchasing their finds while the others stood at the exit. Once the whole group was together, they walked to their gate —a bit too disorganized— and as soon as they were allowed in, it was a wave of confusion.

"It's kind of weird a group of renowned adults can't find their seats," Kaylee muttered. Karen took a glance at her, noticing how she was struggling on tucking away her carry on bag in the upper compartment. Shaking her head, Karen took the girl's bag and tucked it away in a swift movement.

"When can we have free food?"

A series of groans and sighs scattered through the small portion of the airplane. A bob of brown hair quickly plopped down onto a seat, her eyes scanning the outside to see baggage carriers quick at work. The sun was quickly setting and the lighting reflected against her glowing skin, following the same for the other girls of the group.

"So, you said Kate, Brittany, and Charlee were waiting for us, right?" Colin spoke up. Kaylee was looking over seat, Jessica seated behind her and wanting to join in on the conversation. Colin was across the aisle, seated to next Max, who was quickly setting up his music playlist for the long flight.

"Yes, I talked to Kate this morning and she's having a great time on visiting the historical sites," Jessica explained.

"I thought she was in Rome, not Capri."

Jessica shrugged, her honey brown hair falling onto her back from her shoulders. As she untangled her earbuds, everyone else seemed to enter a calm mode of preparing on the airplane taking flight. Everyone seemed to set themselves up with their music playlist, arguing if there was actually wifi.

The seats weren't as close as they had wished, but the group consisting of seven were a hassle when together. They all had met through their devices a few years back, but know, they were almost unseperable. Before they could finish up their studies, return to projects for work, or find adventure elsewhere, they decided to take an admirable trip to Italy. They all had been wishing to visit for the first time —or return— and they were quite happy on going as a group.

"Who has some water or soda?" Jackie asked, frowning as she looked into her bag of snacks. "I think I may have forgotten to pack that."

"You can't have soda on an airplane," Max spoke, his will to roll his eyes evident that it wasn't possible.

"And we can't have morons on one, yet here we all are," the girl mumbled. Before she could clearly complain once more, an item quickly hit her shoulder.

"Sorry! But have a CapriSun, the cute TSA let me sneak it in," Karen admitted, as she slumped in her seat, which was inbetween Kaylee's and Jackie's.

"He may have a thing for you," Kaylee said singsongly.

"I wish," the girl in the middle mumbled.

"Can we hook you guys up, though?" Max then added in. "He did have good looks."

"Yes, I agree with Max," Colin agreed.

Both men smiled in agreeance, which was somewhat suspicious, but let bros be bros.

Shuffling through her bag, Jackie took hold of a granola bar and the CapriSun, hoping she wouldn't get into any trouble with a flight attendant. As she made a ruckus with the wrapper, a small ding rang into the aircraft.

"We will be taking off in less than ten minutes, make sure you are seated and buckled up, thank you."

"You're most certainly welcome," Jessica whispered almost delightfully.

"Hello? Hi, can I get some assistance?" The brown haired girl with black rimmed glasses and the attention span of a chicken named Jackie asked, her hand in the air as if she was back in middle school.

"Jackie..." Kaylee began to say slowly.

"Is there something wrong?" Karen asked beside her.

"Yes, there is. I'm sorry can we get this going —"

In a snap, all of the other members of the group hushed her. It may have been their social adult awkwardness or the fact that she was being quite uncontrollable that triggered the group in full action.

"I—"

"No," Jessica then whispered.

"You need relax, and remain quiet." Karen advised a bit too aggressively.

"It's like taking care of a child," Max muttered, his head reclined against the top of his seat. A few locks of his hair seemed to be out of place, a few sticking up to where a stranger would be hit with a wave of OCD.

"Can we all just survive this trip?" Jessica suggested. She then quickly put her earbuds on, distracting gerself into her cell phone.

"Can we all just agree that we may have a 10% chance of death on this airplane? Turbulence may be a—"

"Excuse me, ma'am?" A flight attendant interrupted the uncontrollable girl. Her scarf seemed to stiff, and so did her uniform, which seemed obvious she was new and dreading on approaching passengers.

"Yes?" Jackie asked, frowing ever so slightly.

"Can you please quiet down? People may get anxious at your burst of random facts, and we don't want that."

"Look, ma'am—" the girl started.

"We will make sure of that, thank you!" Kaylee interrupted. She smiled at the flight attendant, the woman's shoulders falling in ease. As the attendant walked away up to the pilot's cabin, both Kaylee and Karen snapped their heads towards the third girl.

"Are you crazy?!" Kaylee exclaimed in a hushed voice.

"Maybe?" Jackie croaked.

"Neat stuff, nice info." Max added out of nowhere, though he seemed to be dozing off.

Poor sap will experience turbulence in less than a few minutes; shame.

"We will be taking off in less than a minute." A new flight attendant spoke. "Please be aware we will go through rough airs, have your seat belts on and await for further instructions."

"Is this a flight to our death or Italy?" Jessica asked in a low voice.

"Hopefully our death," Karen jokingly said with a chuckle.
