ch 1: introducing me

"Mommy! I'm home" I walk through the house but I see no one. Living room.. No, kitchen.. No, garage.. No. Finally I reach the backyard and turn around to close the door when I hear "SURPRISE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" everyone shouted 😱 "OMG THANKS YOU GUYS!" I hug everyone and then go find my mommy through the huge crowd where shes setting up a karaoke machine."happy birthday, sweetie" She gives me huge smile "Thanks where's daddy" I reply looking down "oh,  sweetie he couldn't come he was stuck at work I'm sorry"she gives me a small smile and a hug." Don't worry about it mommy, it's not the first time" I reply and walk away to get a drink. I walk to the cooler to get a apple juice when I feel a pair of arms wrap around my shoulders "hi stranger haven't seen you in a while" I look up to see Josh my bsf since kindergarten. "Hey loser what's up!?"I hugged him and he laughed at the old nickname I gave him in 2nd grade. "How hav-" He started before he was interrupted by my momr on the stage she rented. "I'm so happy you all could come to celebrate Jaime's 8 birthday with her tonight,  she seems really happy, but I have a surprise for Jaime,  can everone pay attention at the screen please." Everyone looked at the screen and my brothers face appeared on the screen that I haven't seen since last year on my 7th birthday and he went to the military at 20 but he said he couldn't make it today so he just got me a gift instead through mail."Hi baby,  I just wanted to congratulate you on the big eight today, I'm sorry I couldn't make it but I have a special treat for you then the screen shut off and so did all the lights but only one by the patio door stayed on " During his speech I was getting teary eyed already and I his voice was echoing through the whole backyard."ok jaime I want you to turn around😏" I turn around there he is my brother Jason I haven't seen since I was 7 with flowers in his hands and before I knew it everyone was cheering and clapping and I was running into his arms and wrapped my arms around his neck and my legs around his torso crying my eyes out. " I-i t-thou-ght y-you wer-en't co-coming"😭😩I cried into his neck. "Oh baby, it's ok don't cry this is a happy moment ok and there's another surprise"😯😱"There's more are you serious." "Yes, indeed there is" He laughed and held up two tickets to see Ariana Grande "AHHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH BUBBA,  I LOVE YOU" he laughed "Your welcome princess,  I love you too" After that the party continued with 'welcome homes' 'happy birthdays' and laughter.

2 YEARS LATER
Jaime's pov
A lot has happened these past 2 years,  my mother died, my dad became an alcoholic, my brother came back to live with us and keep me safe from all the danger,  oh and when I say danger I mean my father John,  he's always yelling and hitting me, but now he's in jail for all the bad things he did and my brother has custody of me so I call him my daddy since he's always been there for me unlike John. Anyways I'm going to tell you about me My name is Jaime McCann, yes i know my brother/daddy is Jason McCann, he told me he never went to the military he just went on missions he calls them business trips but ik they're missions I'm 10 now my birthday is March 2, 2008,my favorite color is blue and I'm a tomboy not a girly girl I hate pink ewwwww.  I like Ariana Grande, blueberry waffles, and my skateboard my daddy(Jason) bought me on my 8th birthday when he surprised me on my 8th birthday. Ok guys I gotta go I'm supposed to be sleeping but I can't go to sleep because I'm scared John might take me back, daddy's coming up the stairs I have to play sleep bye guys. " Jaime?" Daddy calls I pretend be asleep letting the tears fall silently. I feel the bed dip and ik he's sitting next to me. "Jaime, I know your not asleep, so sit up princess and talk to me, please" I sit up and look at him "Why aren't you asleep, baby" I shrug. "Yes,  you do or else you wouldn't be up and crying now would you" I look up at him and back down again. Then he pulls me in his lap and plays with my hair."what's wrong, you can tell me" I look up at him "I'm scared that John will come and take me back" I cry "hey, it's ok he's not coming for a loonnngg time and if he does I'm gonna be here to protect you, and I promise I won't let anyone or anything hurt you ever again, ok?" I wipe my tears and hold out my pinky "promise" He wraps his pinky around mine and chuckles "I promise baby,  now why don't you get some sleep" I shake my head 'no' "well do you wanna sleep with daddy?" I jump up. "Yes" Daddy picks me up and carries me to his room down the hall and sit me and him on the bed.The night ended with him whispering sweet nothings in my ear and playing with my hair.

NEXT MORNING
JASON'S POV

I wake up with Jaime on my chest asleep,  I didn't want to wake her so I just scooted her over to go make breakfast for us.I was up all night thinking about what she said about how she didn't want want that monster to come back and take her away from me that's my daughter now and anyone who disagrees can kiss my left pinky toe. While I was making breakfast the doorbell rang and there stood........
