Two days later: Graduation Day
Ruthie has been a little happier and she's eating better. She's brought suitcases over and keeps them in the spare bedroom full of clothes. I've told her she can use the dressers and closet but she hasn't unpacked yet.Like every other night, Ruthie is hogging the blankets and little snores are coming out of her mouth. I poke her face until she wakes up. She finally starts to stir around and starts grumbling.
"Stop..." She smacks my hand away from her face and pulls the blanket over her head.
"Oh no you don't," I grab the blanket back and pull it completely off her. "We graduate today! You need to get ready!"
"I'm not moving unless it's for a party."
"Well Good think Zack is throwing one..."
She shoots her head up in surprise. "Zack's finally throwing a party?" I nod in response and she jumps out of bed. " We have to go, Luke! Who knows when he'll throw another one. The whole town knows how crazy they are!"
"Well good thing we're going. Both my parents have the midnight shift so we're covered. All we have to do is graduate and then party!"
She jumps around in excitement and runs out of the room, "Let's go graduate!"
Ruthie's POV
Luke and I are standing g by the stage ready to walk across to receive our ticket to freedom. All I can think about is the party. We go to every party we can find. I already know he's getting wasted along with me.
"Ruth Hellend." I start walking across the stage and shake hands with the principal while he hands me my diploma.
"Luke Hemmings." He follows me off the stage and we run into the hallway and scream out of excitement.
"We're free! We made it!" He hugs me while picking me up and starts spinning us around.
"I can't believe we're done!"
"Congratulations! Both of you!" Luke's family join us and I see my mom on FaceTime on his moms phone.
"Thank you mom." I'm surprised she actually tried watching the ceremony considering we didn't end in good terms.
"My flight is about to leave but I'll talk to you later," and then the screen goes black.
"Let's get out of here. I don't want to be in this school any longer." Luke grabs my hand and we run out of the school to never look back.
Luke's POV
A few hours of Ruthie's outfit changes and we're finally walking up to Zack's front door. The music is booming through the house and lights are shining through the windows outside."Now remember, if I see you with a cigarette in your mouth I'm stabbing you in your sleep tonight." Ruthie is giving me a serious look and is blocking the door with crossed arms.
I smirk and respond, "who says I'll be sleeping tonight?"
"I did not need to know that. Just remember you're my ride home tonight so please don't bring home any girls."
"Don't worry, they'll be gone by the morning," I smirk and she smacks my arm.
"I am not going to third wheel in the car with you and a girl you're about to bang!"
"Hey, I'll try to go home empty handed tonight but I can't help that every female wants me."
"You're disgusting." She turns around and opens the door.
"Can you do me a favor?" I pull out my car keys and hand them to her. Will you drive home tonight? I drove last time.
"Fine, but you owe me!"
I just smile and walk into the kitchen and start pouring myself a drink and grab a water for Ruthie. I hand her the water and she rolls her eyes because she won't be able to drink tonight.
"Don't worry I'll drink for the both of us tonight."
She smacks me with the water bottle and leaves me in the kitchen. "Oh come on! I'll get to baby sit your drunk ass next time!" I shout at her but she just keeps on walking.
A few drinks later and I'm starting to feel the effect of the alcohol. I take a few shots and I start to feel dizzy and sit down on the couch.
"Luke? Do you want to go home? It's almost four in the morning. I'm tired of watching you drink anything you want while I'm stuck with this water."
"No I'm fine I want to stay," my words slur into each other and my eyes feel heavy.
"Well I'm the one with the keys so I say we're leaving." She grand my arms and pulls me up guiding me out the door towards the car.
"Why are you so large," shes mumbling while practically dragging me. "This would be a lot easier if you weren't twice my size."
"Maybe you should grow a foot taller, shortie."
"Yah I'll work on that." We get into my car and before I know it I'm dragging my feet to my bedroom with Ruthie under my arm helping me walk once again.
"Ok, lay down and go to bed. There's a trash can next you so please don't puke on the floor."
"Aw what a good friend. You're the nicest person ever." She doesn't respond to me and starts taking off her heels. "Will you take my heels off too?" I lift my feet off the bed so she can take them off for me... hopefully.
"Luke, you're not wearing heels."
"Please....."
She walks over to me and rips the boots off my feet.
"Ow!"
"You're fine! If you want different pants to wear to bed then you're on your own."
"You don't want to see this ass?"
"I've seen it before and I'm impressed."
I roll my eyes and she lays down next me me and closes her eyes.
"Good night, Luke."
"See you tomorrow," I roll over and place my arm over her.
I opened my eyes and found the bed left empty next to me. My head is pounding from last night but I'm not sure I can say I regret it.
I pick up my phone and check the time. It's a little past 3:30 P.M. and I have a text from Ruthie from almost an hour ago at a quarter to three.
"I wrote you a note. It's sitting on your dresser. Please don't be angry with me."
Why would I be mad at her? Where did she go? I pick up the note but I'm scared to read it. I take a deep breath and my eyes scan the carefully written words.Dear Luke,
I needed to get away from everything. I know you thought things were getting better the past couple of days, and they were, but I need time to myself. I need time to be away and think. I'm going to Honduras. My cousin agreed to let me stay with her for the summer while she's here working.
Please don't try to call me yet. I know you'll try to get me to come home and I might listen to you but I need to do something on my own. I promise to call when I'm ready to talk.
I hope you understand and please don't be mad.
I love you, RuthieShit, Ruthie. What did you just do?
