We pull into Caren's long driveway and he parks his car in front of the door. He walks over to my side of the car and opens my door. We walk up to the door and before we can even ring the doorbell it swings open.
Caren stands at the door with a smile spread across her face. "Hey guys I saw you pull up please come in." This lady is some type of crazy. I walk in and place my bag on the floor.
"I'm sorry but I have to run something at work came up." I sigh but nod my head. He kisses me quickly on my lips before walking out and closing the door behind him.
"Let me show you where your room is." I follow Caren down a series of hallways until we come to a dead end hall with a single door at the end. She pushes the door open and I'm not going to lie the room looked amazing.
"Your father told me what you like and so I had my designer come and do your room for you. I hope you like it."
"Uh yea it's really nice."
"I'm glad you like it." I walk into the room and place my stuff on the bed. I look up and see Caren standing at the door and she looked a little nerves. "Can we talk Racheal?"
"Yea sure." I say unsure as I sit down on the bed.
"I know you probably want to hate me and I'm making that really hard for you."
"You have no idea."
Caren smiles a little and looks over at me with sad eyes. "What I'm trying to say is I just really want you to like me because all I ever wanted was a family ever since my ex husband and I split. And I found that in your father I just really want this to work with you and your sister. I just hope that one day you can see me as your second mom."
"It's not your fault it's mine. I just I haven't had a good experience with mom."
Caren's face saddens, "Oh honey what happened with you and your mom?"
"Well ever since she moved to the Hamptons and got a new family she doesn't have time for me anymore."
"Oh honey sometimes us mom's get caught up in their own life sometimes we forget about the important things."
"I'm sure you've never done that to Isla."
"Actually I did I got caught up with my work and I regret it to this day. It's the thing that made Isla move to England with her father."
"Well my mom doesn't even when I come to visit her after months and she pays the least amount of attention to me."
"Mhm? Have you talked to her about how you feel?"
"No not exactly."
"Well how is the family in the Hamptons?"
"Well they aren't that bad my step-dad always tries to make me feel welcome and my mom's son well he's really young so nothing to really say about him."
"Why did you call him your mom's son?"
"Because he's not really my brother."
"What do you mean?"
"Well I've never seen him as my real brother just some kid that came out of my mom cheating on my dad that didn't deserve any of it."
"Oh I see where you're coming from."
"Yea but I'd rather not talk about this anymore."
"Of course honey. I'm just glad we had this conversation I feel like we really connected." Caren gets up and smiles at me, "I hope you enjoy staying here tonight." And with that she walks out closing the door behind her.
