Ever since my little incident, I swore I would never do it again. Now the camp expects me to do it during the campfire...

I sat in my room, contemplating my existence. I was listening to the radio on my desk and one of my favorite songs started play and I couldn't help it. I began to sing:

《Play music》

Ever since I could remember
Everything inside of me
Just wanted to fit in

I was never one for pretenders
Everything I tried to be
Just wouldn't settle in

If I told you what I was
Would you turn your back on me?
And if I seemed dangerous
Would you be scared?
I get the feeling just because
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
That this problem lies in me

I'm only a man with a candle to guide me
I'm taking action stand to escape what's inside me
A monster! A monster!
I've turned into a monster
A monster! A monster!
And it keeps getting stronger!

Can I clear my conscience
If I'm different from the rest?
Do I have to run and hide?

I never said that I want this
This burden came to me
And it's made home its side

If I told you what I was
Would you turn your back on me?
And if I seemed dangerous
Would you be scared?
I get the feeling just because
Everything I touch isn't dark enough.
That this problem lies in me

I'm only a man with a candle to guide me
I'm taking a stand to escape what's inside me
A monster! A monster!
I've turned into a monster
A monster! A monster!
And it keeps getting stronger

I'm only a man with a candle to guide me
I'm taking a stand to escape what's inside me
A monster! A monster!
I've turned into a monster
A monster! A monster!
And it keeps getting stronger

Sighing, I flopped down onto my bed and gazed at the moon flower on the fire escape. It had slightly wilted. Feeling a pang in my chest I started to think about an old friend of mine, whose voice can make anyone swoon.

I've never told my friends about her. Melody, my childhood crush, was a beautiful girl even though she's about a year younger than me. But since she moved away, there was no one else who could balance out my singing.

Her voice... I really want to hear her sing one last time.

There was a sudden knock on my bedroom door, making me jump up and turn off the radio. The door opened and in came Annabeth Chase, my girlfriend.

"Hey, Seaweed Brain. Thought of anything to sing?" She asked.

"I really don't want to sing, Wise Girl."

"You don't have to be good, Percy. You just have to sing."

"Annabeth," I started, "I want to okay. I just don't..." My eyes landed on an old album sitting on one of the selves in my closet.

"Don't what?"

"Please, just leave."

I knew I hurt her. She walked out without saying a word.
