I looked at him, his face honest and a little scared. "What?"

"Magic, Lily. They said you had a lot of magic."

I looked away from his eyes and down at the ground. There was no way I had magic. My parents would never lie to me about something that serious. Especially when they knew how much I wanted to go to Hogwarts and wanted magic. They would never knowingly take something so close to their own daughter's heart…would they?

I walked out the door and down the stairs, Hugo at my heels.

"Lily, wait! Let's talk about this before you-"

I walked a little faster, and burst into my parent's study, where my father, mother, aunt and uncle sat. They looked up at me, obviously startled at my rude entrance.

My mother stood and walked over to me, taking my arm gently and puling me toward the door. "Darling, we're having a private conversation. I'm sure whatever you need can wait until morning."

I pulled my arm away and marched right up to my father. "Do I have magic?"

A silence fell over the room. It was as if everyone had sucked in their breath at the same time so they would not miss what came out of my father's mouth next. He just looked at me, his eyes searching mine for something, for what I was unsure.

I felt tears fill my eyes. "So it's true?" my voice cracked, and I felt my heart squeeze in sadness.

"Can I speak to Lily alone please?" he asked, without breaking eye contact with me. My mother started to protest, but my father looked at her and smiled slightly. "Ginny, please."

When the room was empty, Dad waved his hand, shutting the doors in one fluid motion. "Sit."

I didn't waver from where I stood. "I'd rather stand, if you don't mind."

He nodded, and took a deep breath. "You weren't supposed to find out until you had graduated-"

"Why? So I could never go to Hogwarts, something you know I've been dreaming about my whole life? You know how much not having magic crushed me, Dad! Or do you? Do you know how it feels to be the only person without magic? To be sitting in a room and not have anything in common with your own siblings? It killed me every day!!" I stopped for a moment, my voice cracking again. I tried to contain my sobs for a moment. "And here I am, finding out that I have magic, and my parents knew the whole time?! Or does the whole fucking family know?!"

"Don't use that kind of language." he said calmly.

        I scoffed. "Oh piss off!"

He looked up at me, the brightness in his eyes from earlier was gone. "Lily. I understand that you are upset, but you have not given me an opportunity to explain mine and your mother's decision to keep your magic from you."

"What is there to explain?!" I wiped my cheeks and nose with my sleeve, not caring if they got stained with salty tears and snot.

"Please, sit. It's a long story."

I once again didn't move. He sighed and sat down himself. "You had never showed any magic when you were young. Your mother and I worried, but we never thought you were without magic. You used the floo network, which means you had magic within you. When Professor McGonagall came to visit, I was sure she was just hand delivering your letter. But…that's not what she had to say.
