It's about a day after Emerson was put in the hospital when I decided that I need to try and cheer him up. So after finding out Em's room number from his dad, I decided to go surprise him. I decide to buy some green tea and make a reservation at Em's favorite restaurant, Husk. It's risky taking him out and it's a bit of a drive, but it's worth it.
After picking up the stuff, I decided to drive over to the hospital.
I took the elevator up to the cardiology ward and got a name tag.
I opened the door to a somewhat tired looking Emerson. "Hey Princess."
"Hey Emery," I said, walking over and hugging him, "how're you feeling?"
"Good I guess, I mean I could be better."
"I hope you feel better. The surgery is supposed to help you with all of this."
"I hope it does." he said, his smile breaking.
"Me too." I said, rubbing his arm, then sitting on his bed.
I smiled and got out the bag, "Okay so I got you some stuff. I got you some green tea cause I heard about this student research project at Hillsboro High where they found out Green tea kills cancer."
"Oh haha thanks." He said, rubbing his neck.
"But I also got us a reservation at your favorite restaurant for seven thirty," I said, making a grin come across his face, "I figured you needed a distraction. However, I need to ask your doctor if you can go out for a while."
"Thank you so much." he leaned over and hugged me tightly.
"It's not a problem at all. You're going through a bunch of stuff right now, thought I'd give you a break."
He leaned over and kissed me.
"Thanks again." he said, running a hand through my long, wavy, dark brown hair.
"I'm gonna go see if I can steal you for a few," I said, getting up, "Whats your doctor's name?"
"Dr. Frank Leonardo"
"Okay, I'll go see."
I walked out of his hospital room and down the hall, to the reception desk.
"Hi um is it possible for me to talk to Dr. Leonardo?"
"Um let me see..Frank Leonardo?"
"Yes please."
"I'll page him over."
"Okay thanks."
I leaned against the desk, listening to the buzzing of the lights and the muffled "beeps" from the other rooms. It was strangely calming.
After a few minutes Dr. Leonardo, or Dr. Leo as he said to call him, arrived and we conversed a bit before he said that he'd unhook Em from all the cables so we could go out. But we have to be be back by 9.
When I told Em he was ecstatic.
I told him that id drive him to his house and he'd have an hour to get ready before I pick him up.
Tonight was going to be great.
