Chapter 2 - Running

A blur, everything was just a blur as Daniel raced down the streets to his home, panting heavily as his legs thundered against the ground. His legs were screaming at him to stop, but he just kept running.

" Guys, come on! " He shouted as he ran, turning a corner while multiple footsteps were heard from behind him. He was accompanied by his two brothers, Kai and Anti and his friends, Qrow and Raven. They were all currently running towards the Holt's home as a loud explosion was heard from where the house stood.

Rosemary Boulevard..We're almost there.. Oh God..please have Mom be ok.. Daniel thought as he saw a police car zoom past him, the loud piercing sirens causing Daniel to cover his ears as he began to run as fast as he could, his feet can begun to ache but he refused to stop running, his eyes were coated with determination and mixed with slightly worry and panic.

Before long, loud chopping noises were heard from above, the group glancing up at the sound only to see a helicopter zoom over their heads, the strong gust of wind from it caused Daniel to cover his eyes with his arm as he would turn the corner, the dark smoke practically swallowing the street.

Daniel's eyes would squint as the smoke would glide into his eyes, pain stinging at them lightly while some of the smoke would enter his lungs, forcing a loud cough out of him. He would glance back at the others behind him, hands over their eyes and faces all scrunched.

" We can't go in there!" Raven shouted between coughs, " There's too much smoke, we gotta go the other way around!"

Anti would glance up at him and quickly protest, " But our mom is in there! She might be hurt! We have to go find her now, before it's too late!" He had begun to take a step towards the house but was quickly pulled back by the silver haired female.

" Anti, you can't go in there!" Qrow would barge into the conversation, " It's too dangerous, even for a little kid like you."

" I'll be ok! Daniel and Kai will be with me!" He would lightly smile before shooting a glance at the smoke as he heard a high pitched scream, sending a rush of panic through the whole group as Daniel began to run into the smoke, Raven and Kai close behind.

Anti and Qrow would exchange glances before soon following the others into the darkness of the smoke.

Daniel coughed loudly, covering his eyes with his arm as he ran towards the house, waving away the smoke before it finally cleared. The house was almost completely demolished as rubble was slowly peeling off the house and onto the dust covered ground, the house itself was to the brink of collapsing but Daniel didn't care.

" Mom!" He screamed as he rushed up the stone steps and managed to slip through the pile of wood and rubble that stood in his way, the rest of the small group following.

" Mommy! Where are you?" Anti shouted as he used his small hands to dig through the rubble, hoping to find his mother at least lying there, only to find nothing but more rubble.

Another piercing scream was heard from where the kitchen used to be. A harsh, husky voice was soon heard after the scream, " Get on your fucking knees, you stupid bitch!"

Daniel would gasp softly before gathering all his courage and running towards the voice.

" H-Hey..! Daniel..!" Kai whispered loudly as he followed his brother, Raven, Qrow, and Anti close behind.

Daniel dove down behind one of the massive piles of stone and bricks, his back pressed against it as he attempted to quiet his loud panting as he carefully peeked out from behind the pile, his eyes widening and his ocean blue pupils dilating at the sight.

His mother was kneeled on the ground, her face bruised and her arms restrained behind her back while an arm was coiled around her neck, the other holding a knife.
