Preface

Love. A four letter word that brings about different emotions in different minds. For some it is hearts and flowers; happiness. But for others can be painful, destructive and capable of taking over every thought of every day. Then we come to the topic of soul mates, your other half as some would describe. I merely believed this to be all fiction and therefore refused to believe in its existence.

But I was to discover that they did in fact exist and one day I would come face to face with him; My so-called soul mate. I didn't know that when I did meet him, everything I thought to be only fairy tales and myths would become reality. And I didn't know that my entire life would take a one hundred and eighty degree turn and would never return to normal.

Yet come to think of it, I guess some could label me lucky. While my love came with pain and sleepless nights, it all seemed worth it on the good days; the days full of laughter, shy smiles and happiness that reached the eyes.

Chapter 1: Moving.

"Imprinting... It's not like love at first sight, really. It's more like... gravity moves... suddenly. It's not the earth holding you here anymore... it's her. You become whatever she needs you to be, whether that's a protector, brother, lover or friend."

Gabriella's POV

Rain. Cold, wet and it was lashing outside my window the day of our dreaded move. I didn't really mind as it fit my miserable mood perfectly. I couldn't believe what was happening right now. My dad had gotten a job offer and blindly accepted it, not thinking of his three teenage kids who would abhor the idea. A month later, here we were taking our family of five to my father's hometown, a little reservation called La Push. I had only been there once or twice when I was little and my memories of the area were very vague, meaning that I was more than a little reluctant at the idea of starting a new life there.

"Gabriella!" My mother Beth called from outside my room. "Honey, come down and say one last goodbye."

I didn't. I couldn't. I felt paralysed at the thought of leaving my entire life behind. I was born and raised here, this was where I had gained friendships, where I had my first heartbreak and most of all where my heart felt like it was at home. Los Angeles was a central part to my life and the thought of  walking away from everything hurt me in more ways than one. My mom then walked into my room, probably with the goal of consoling me.

"Gabriella you'll be fine. I don't doubt for a second you won't make new friends in La Push." she said, sitting down on the window sill with me and rubbing my arm comfortingly. "We're going to visit  your father's old friend Harry Clearwater. He has a daughter a year older than you named Leah and a son one year younger than you named Seth. See; friends in no time." She said smiling at me.

I tried to smile back but all I managed was a grimace. She smiled sympathetically at me after realising no words could ease how I was feeling and made her way out. Tears started forming in my eyes, threatening to spill over but I didn't let them. I had promised myself I wasn't going to cry, not now. So I stood from my bed, straightened my shoulders, picked up my bag and re-made the bed. I looked around my room one last time before walking out and going downstairs to my family.

"Took you long enough." Danny smirked at me. "Don't be moping around, we won't leave you to fend for yourself."

"Yeah Gab, we got your back." My brother Josh chimed in.

"Thanks guys." I said smiling weakly at them.

I then looked over at my best friends standing in the corner of the room. Rachel, Alex and me had all been best friends since kindergarten. Whenever somebody gave any of us some trouble, we would all have each other's back. It had always been like that ever since. I walked over to them and gave them all a big hug.

"I'm going to miss you so much!" cried Rachel.

I gave her a smile and walked over, enveloping her in a hug.

"I'm okay. As I get the special privilege of being your cousin, I can see you on special occasions and family reunions." said my cousin Alex grinning at me.

"You have to take me with you whenever you go to visit!"

"If it wasn't obvious, duh." Alex agreed, with a roll of her eyes.

"You guys!" I cried, pulling Alex into the hug. "This won't be the last time we'll see each other, I'll make sure of that."

I smiled at them before giving them both one last squeeze before letting go. We all made our way outside, towards my dad's car where Danny was already buckled in while my dad was making last minute changes to our luggage at the back.

Josh was standing just beside the door, smiling shyly at none other than Rachel who wasn't being discreet at hiding her blush. I rolled my eyes before shoving my brother inside.

"I'll call as soon as I get there, I promise!" I assured them as I was got into the car.

"You better Russo!" Rachel cried through the open car window. "Otherwise I will turn into the clingiest best friend you'll have ever known."

I laughed as the tears started to build again but I choked them back down. The engine of the car started as my dad got in and the sinking feeling in my stomach settled in. I waved goodbye and rolled up the window as Alex and Rachel stared at me with bittersweet smiles. The car started moving, driving away from our old home and old life towards  our new life in our new house in a new place in a new state. I couldn't call it home. Simply because it wasn't.
