When you hear the word gay, you instinctively think of a rainbow, right? That probably has something to do with the fact that the gay flag is a rainbow.
The original flag was invented in 1978 by Gilbert Baker. It had eight colours, each of a different meaning. Pink and turquoise were later removed due to manufacturing costs, and the meanings combined with red and blue respectively.
