*two weeks later*
"Nicholas." Carlie called out walking into the living room. Nick walked out of the kitchen biting into a strawberry. "Why did you call me that. I hate when people call me that."
Carlie smiled. "It's one of my favorite boy names. If I ever have a boy his name will be Nicholas Alexander. My two favorite boy names." She said sitting on the sofa. Nick still stood munching on his strawberry. "What if it's a girl?" Carlie smiled at him. "I remember you saying that you liked the name Dakota once but I think Aspen is cute. So if it happens to be a girl let's call her Dakota Aspen." Nick walked over to sit beside her. "Looks like we have baby names chosen."
Carlie frowned, looking at him. "No you have a say in what the name is. What do you think or feel or is it too early?"
He shook his head. "No I'm ok with those. I really like them. The boy will be carrying on my name so that works out and the girl name is a combo of our favorites so it's perfect." He reassured her by kissing her.
She grabbed her phone and checked her calendar. She was scheduled to see her doctor tomorrow. She reminded Nick and he said he'd go with her if she liked. She stood up and headed upstairs to take a nap.A few hours later Carlie went down stairs to find Nick and a couple friends playing video games. He looked over at her. "Did we wake you?" She had grabbed some apple juice and shook her head as she took a sip. After capping the bottle she walked over and sat on the floor next to him. She watched them play for a bit before getting something to eat. She was feeling good about some story ideas so she turned on her laptop and started typing them out. Her editor was happy with the revisions she did and sent those chapters to the publisher. She was so busy writing she didn't hear the boys say goodbye and leave. Nick turned the game system and tv off before heading up to bed. Even though Carlie was fatigued, she didn't want to stop writing. Nick kissed her goodnight and told her not to stay up too late due to the appointment. She said ok and resumed typing.
She ended up getting a couple hours rest. Once she started writing, it took a lot to get her to stop. They were now in the waiting area of the doctor's office. Nick was in his phone while Carlie sat nervously. Nick put his hand on her thigh to keep her leg still. "It's gonna be ok." She nodded and as she grabbed one of the many looked over magazines the nurse called her name. She stood up and walked over to her. Nick followed them back to the room. He sat in the chair across from the exam table while Carlie sat on the edge of the exam table. The nurse looked at them and smiled. "Carlie I'll need to take a blood sample and for you tell me the first day of your last menstrual cycle." Carlie thought back. "A few weeks. I'm not sure of the day." The nurse nodded and tied the tourniquet on her arm and gently inserted the needle while pushing the tube into place. She swabbed it after removing the needle and placed a bandage on while she collected the things she smiled at Carlie. " I'll need you to undress from the waist down. The doctor will be right in." She left the room and Carlie sighed. She quickly undressed and sat on the table glancing at Nick. "You ok?" He nodded. They idly chatted until there was a knock on the door and it opened. "Hello, I'm Dr. Chambers. How are you feeling?" Carlie replied. "Ok. Just nauseous and tired." The doctor washed his hands and dried them with paper towels. "Your blood work came back and you're definitely pregnant. Let's take a look and see how everything is."
Carlie lay back on the table and placed her feet in the stirrups. She glanced over at Nick and saw a look on his face she couldn't read. She held her hand out and he looked up at her and walked over to stand beside her. "It's weird seeing another man looking at you that way." She giggled, "He's a doctor, he's not looking at me the way you think."
Nick still kept his eye on the doctor who looked up. "This may be a bit cold. He inserted the gel covered transducer and listened. Well, there's the heartbeat." He looked at the screen, "It looks like you're about eight weeks." Carlie smiled looking at Nick who was looking at the screen in awe. The doctor removed the transducer after a few minutes and sat back. Carlie sat up. The doctor stood and washed his hands again. "Everything looks good so far. I'm going to prescribe you some vitamins and want you not to over exert yourself, the early stages of pregnancy are delicate. You may feel tired which is normal as well as an increased sexual drive. Drink lots of fluids and eat healthy meals and snacks. Do you have any questions for me?"
Carlie shook her head no and Nick did the same. The doctor smiled, told them congratulations, to schedule another appointment for two weeks and left the room.
Carlie changed back into her clothes and they walked out to reception to make another appointment.A/N: Yay I finally updated after 8 months. I'm sorry this is kind of a shitty chapter. I'll update again soon. Thank you for reading 💕
