"Losing them." They both said at the same time. Noticing Pony's long face, they felt like they said something wrong, "We're sorry." They mumbled at the same time.
Pony looked at them confused, "Why you guys saying sorry?" Noticing their hesitation, Pony told them, "You guys don't gotta be afraid. Y'all won't hurt my feelings."
"We don't wanna lose them, like we lost Mama n Papa C." Johnny said, while Emi whimpered. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis were like parents to their gang, and especially to Emi and Johnny. When they passed away in July, they've clung onto their brothers after their death more.
Pony felt bad for them. Sure, he's just 13, but he knows their fear, and their pain. He clung into his mom and dad too, just like them. "I wanna go home!" Emi whimpered out, hiding her head, and tears into Pony's shirt. Pony felt like he didn't know what to do. Should I tell their principal? But what will Darry say? Will he be mad at me?
"Okay," Pony started, "Let's go to your principal, I'm sure he'll understand." He stood Emi and Johnny up, then got himself up. He got their backpacks, and went over to Mr. Whyter, "Hey Mr. Whyter, everything okay with Ms. Snickumbs?"
"Yeah Pony, she just--" Mr. Whyter got cut off by Ms. Snickumbs fainting when she saw Johnny, Emi, and Pony with their bags.
"Mkay... whale than." Emi said cutely while tilting her head to the side. Mr. Whyter chuckled at her cute expression. I'll take her to the nurses office to lay down, and I'll call the office for the kids to have a teacher look after them."
"Alright. Do you need any help?" Pony asked him.
"I'm good, thank you though Ponyboy." He responded. Mr. Whyter thought of how to bring Ms. Snickumbs to the nurses office. Eventually, he brought her bridal style. "Pony, bring the kids to the main office with me, I'll let them no to excuse the two, a long with you."
Pony looked at him surprised, "Are you sure sir?"
"Yes I'm sure. You're a smart student Ponyboy, you deserve a little extra break."
"Thank you sir." Pony said.
---
"Good morning Mr. Jackson." Pony greeted the principal.
"Good morning Pony." Mr. Jackson noticed the red eyed Emi in Pony's arms, and his eyes softened, "Do they need to be excused?" He looked over at Johnny, and saw him with the cutest puppy look an eight year old boy can muster, and he felt himself melt.
"Yes sir, sorry for the inconvenience." Ponyboy apologized.
"Don't worry about it Ponyboy. I heard about your parents, I'm sorry for the three of you." Everyone knows Mr. and Mrs. Curtis are, er were, the parents of the gang, and since Mr. Jackson isn't a soc nor a greaser, he's a middle class, he tries to give benefits to both social classes, "I'll call the middle school, and let them know a family emergency happened."
"Thank you so much Mr. Jackson." Pony was grateful for him. Mr. Jackson is an amazing person in general. Anyone would be grateful for him.
"Alright, I'll call the boys to see who can pick y'all up. Now get outta here." Mr. Jackson said jokingly. Pony saluted him with one hand while the other kept Emi to his side.
"Sir yes sir. Have a nice day." Johnny said, mimicking Pony.
"Y'all too, bye." Mr. Jackson waved.
They left the office, and waited in the hallway to either Dally or AC to pick them up.
