    "No!"

But it was to late. The girl had been broken, then whatever life that had been left in her had been drowned. The monster had consumed her. She was gone. I opened my mouth to shout her name when I realized I didn't know what it was. Finally able to move, I jumped to my feet determined to find a way to save her this time, refusing to acknowledge that she was really gone. I lunged forward. The beast turned towards me and that's when I realized what it was. It was completely made out of the water with two ever changing eyes. It rippled through the tank towards me. My breath caught in my throat and I couldn't breath. It was like the air had been sucked out of me. Any chance to run I would've had earlier totally dissolved. The monster stopped only a foot from me. It seemed to smell my fear, taste it, feel it, breath it. I wanted to scream, but I couldn't, I wouldn't. It's cool breath was on my face smelling of fish. It's hand wrapped around my waist pulling me forward, out of the water. It brought me up to its face. A low growl escaped it as it studied me with its black eyes that shifted into a ruby red. It sniffed me like an animal smelling its prey. I fought the urge to pull away knowing that it'd attack at the first sign of weakness.

Coralynn, it hissed. Coralynn.

"How do you know who I am?" I choked out. Its hold on me tightened making it hard to breath.

A splash behind me hinted someone else's presence.

I know you becaussssse you will end up like me.

"I'm not like you. I'm not like anybody here. I'm just normal."

"Coralynn?" I recognized the voice from somewhere, like some far off memory, not even sure if I really heard it. Still, I struggled to turn around and see who it was, but I couldn't move.

You are like me. I would know. I created you.

"No you didn't." Speaking was a struggle, but I had to say something.

A new voice sounded. "Coralynn, who are you talking to?" My father.

The monster gave me a harsh laugh. How elsssse do you think you got here?

"My parents."

Your parentssss lie. I made you.

"Cora?" That was my mother.

"What do you want with me?" My voice sounded rough, dry, on the verge of tears.

I want you to come with me.

"No."

You are mine. I created you.

"No."

I can tell you everything about who you are.

"You know nothing about me."

I can tell you about your dreamsssss.

That's when I broke. Tears began streaming down my face. "You don't know what you're talking about."

"Get away from her," it was a harsh whisper. I didn't think anybody heard but me and the beast.

And who are you?

"What's wrong with Cora?" that time it was Noah. I heard the worry in his voice, but my eyes were still locked on the monster holding me not able to tear my gaze away.

"Let me go." Confusion was invading my mind making it difficult to think. Blackness was edging its way into my vision too. "Please." "Cora, don't close your eyes. Everything will be okay." I just caught those green eyes before everything went black. My last thought was No wonder I hate coming to these bonfires.
