Chapter 4

We were sitting on a dock, feet in the water, hand over hand when he turned and looked at me. Noah, his brown eyes sweet with love dug deep into my heart. I swear my soul recognized his and it felt completely right. He moved his hand to my cheek and brought my chin close for a kiss, when suddenly the mood changed. It was not as loving as I had remembered.

He wrapped his arms around me; lungs panting for air, blood racing thick, eyes scanning our surroundings. We were in panic. The Demented began running from all sides toward us, in crazed rage. Behind the trees, and cars, jumping out of windows and running toward us fast. He grabbed me tighter and jumped in the water; we sank all the way to the bottom. It was very clear, light blue, and there were other people. Something to do with water kept us safe. The infected wouldn't touch it. We could see them standing at the edge and watching us, but they made no movement to attack. We couldn't breathe in the water but we weren't drowning. We somehow, didn't need oxygen. We just didn't breathe. I was staring at him when something grabbed my arm, gripping me tightly.

I woke and the pressure remained on my arm.

"Haley," his voice was soft but quick.

I struggled to say "what" and curled myself in the blanket now wrapped around me. I stared up at him in surprise.

"Are you alright?" he asked.

"Noah? I'm fine. Why?" I tried to sound nonchalant.

"You were shaking and trembling." He said while giving me a stern look.

"I was? Oh alright... well, I'm sorry I woke you."

"I was awake. You should go back to sleep. "

He shuffled to his feet and left the room. I could hear them whisper from outside the door.

"What was that about?" John asked.

"I was just checking."

"Checking what Noah?"

"If she was ok, that's it, no more 21 questions." he said.

John sighed and began humming a familiar tune.
