Chapter 28

Cassie's P.O.V.

"What?"

I inhaled sharply. I could feel my eyes beginning to become moist but I tried my best to hold it back.

"Yea" I nodded my head "Apparently because of how long I was out they replaced me with another detective. And they already transferred her which means she is Nathan's permanent parter" I explained. My hands were rubbing back and forth against my thighs.

Jay reached forward and grabbed my hand "Can they do that?"

"Apparently they can. I just can't believe it. Jay I loved my job, I was out for 5 weeks and then I come back to this. I mean I-"

"Hey" He said lightly squeezing my hand "Your getting your job back. This isn't over"

I stayed silent for a few seconds letting his words sink in before I thought about someone "Lieutenant Brooks. She has to be behind this. She has to be"

"Okay, we'll fight this together"

I looked at him with admiring eyes "Thanks" I whispered.

He got distracted when his name was being called.

"Yea, I'll be right there" He called back.

"I'm gonna go" I said sniffing.

"Are you sure? You don't have to"

I began to stand up "Yea, no it's okay. I'm just gonna go back to Kelly's place and hang out there for awhile"

"I'll call you later"

I could see he was a bit hesitant about letting my leave. Even I was hesitant but I still walked out.

"Yea I know, bye" I said just before I hung up the phone. I sighed as I put my phone down on the nightstand next to me.

"Hey, who was that?" Jay asked as he walked into the room with a bowl of popcorn.

"Nathan" I sat back on the bed rest and pulled the blanket over me "He keeps apologizing to me and tells me he's going to try to fight it"

"Well that's good" He sat next to me and pulled the blanket over himself.

I groaned "Do we really have to do this?"

"Yes we do. You need to take your mind off of everything and there is no better way than watching your favorite movie"

"Your really gonna watch The Notebook with me?" I asked looking over to him.

"For you, anything"

I smiled at him. Leaning in I kissed his cheek "Okay, press play"

He picked up the remote pressing play. I cuddled beside him as the movie started.

I stared at the ceiling after glancing at the clock. I should be getting ready for work. Jay had just left. I stayed in his apartment since I didn't really feel like going to mine at the moment. Jay and I like to stay at each other's apartment sometimes.

Slowly getting up I sat on the edge of the bed. Thinking about what I was going to do today. But nothing came to mind. Slowly I got up and got dressed. I went for a long run to clear my mind. Afterwards I took a shower and laid around my apartment.
