I rushed to class with effortless strodes along the stone pathway, not daring to fly even though it'd be much faster. Can't risk it, is what I always thought whenever I considered using my powers. I knew that even if I did fly, I could turn invisible and nobody would see me. But once I've reached the school's grounds, what then? Do I just suddenly become visible to all who surround me, like a magestic fairy appearing out of nowhere? No, that'd just be absurd.
Fairies can't even turn invisible, let alone appear in the middle of the room in a burst of sparkles.
Spotting the red-brick school just ahead of me, I slowed down to a pace that was almost a speed walk, but allowed me to catch my breath.
Here at school, I was known as 'the girl who doesn't give a damn about anything'. Meaning that if people saw me running just before the morning bell rung, it'd ruin my whole reputation and people would think that I actually cared about school and grades (which I do care about, but I don't want people to know--it'd attract too much attention).
My school, Forestial Primary School, was a small, brick building located in the dead centre of the Forestial area. Lush green vines crawled up the two story building that contained only four tiny classrooms for the whole school of 120 children. Yes, I mean 120 kids. And since there's such a small number of children, our principal, Ms.Starland, decided we should skip the grades and just have four classes of mixed students from years 3 to 6. There wasn't even any kindergartens, year 1's or year 2's to teach anyway, so it didn't matter to her at all.
Lazy principal, I thought. She could at least put up advertisements for the school so she can enroll more people. I mean, after all, she is a fairy.
Like I said before, there are no humans in this world that knows I'm a witch besides Mr.Drake. So then in order for me to attend classes at an actual school (since mum and dad wanted me to learn to coexist with the humans), my parents practically begged Harper Starland, the smartest fairy in the Forestial area, to build a school for all humans besides myself.
Standing in front of the light timber doors, I placed my hand on the brass door handles, opened the double doors and made my way inside the human school.
A warm gush of air hit me like a firey blast against the cool wind, engulfing me in it's startling heat. Speeding inside away from the cool winter air, I quickly (but softly) closed the door behind me and spun around to find Mr.Drake with his kind smile, beaming at me as if he's won a million dollars.
He grabbed my hand and half-pulled, half-pushed me towards the school hall. I pulled away gently, but to him I was stronger than a giant. Calming my bad-tempered self I asked, "What are you doing?"
He just smiled even wider, "There's a new student coming today, and I think he's your age."
I sighed, only just realising what was about to happen. Every time someone enrolled in Forestial Primary School that was my age, Mr.Drake suddenly becomes overly excited about it and doesn't stop bothering me with his irritating plans for me to make friends.
I sighed, "Look, Sebastian, I REALLY don't want to do this, so could we, you know skip-"
"That's not how you should properly address you teacher," he silenced me with a finger to my lips and grabbed my wrist again, "now come on, it's time for you to give a warm welcome, Miss Captain."
"Ugh," I groaned--I hated it when he called me that. I mean, he was the one who nominated me to become school captain, but did he really have to call me Miss Captain?
As for the 'warm welcome' I was supposed to give... Argh, that was the WORST part about being captain. Not only would I have to stand in front of the entire school and sing the school's theme song, but I also have to shake the new student's hand. It was a horrible ceremony...
Once we finally reached the courtyard, Mr.Drake quietly ushered me to the right side of the large crowd of excited kids, anticipating the new boy's arrival.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, the doors opened to reveal the new boy, destined to be one of my worst nightmares.
