Chapter 7
Horror spread through Hazelfur's veins. She raced back to camp with Frostail. Oh, no! I left him for only some time and he's dead! She thought. When the two cats got to camp, the clan was already sitting vigil for the young tom. His mother had her head on his flank. She was murmuring something to Treepaw. Hazelfur walked over to Baderfur and layed down beside her.
"I'm really sorry." she mewed."I- I didn't expect him to-"
A hiss from Baderfur cut her off. She lifted her head off of her son and snarled."It's all your fault my only son is dead! You murderer!" She tried to lash out at Hazelfur, only to miss as Rabbitstar shoved her away.
"It was not her fault!" he hissed back."It was Starclan's destiny for him! And it's actually my fault for not taking care of him while on patrol!" Knowing she couldn't be mad at the leader, she glared at him and stalked off to the nursrey.
"Thanks." she meowed to Rabbitstar."I would've been rot-food if you havn't stopped her. And thanks for covering for me- but it was my fault for not being here for him." To her surprise, Rabbitstar glared at her and hissed.
"It was too my fault. I'm the one who let him be attacked by Fireclaw!" He turned at stalked off to his den. Hazelfur glanced at the cats who were sitting by Treepaw. Crystaleyes, his mentor- Vole the elder- and Venomheart, his father. Hazelfur layed down her head, and closed her eyes down by the dead apprintice.
When she woke up, she was in a shimmering place- Starclan. Hazelfur called out Treepaw's name, and a brown tom came out of the mist and over to her.
"Treepaw!" she wailed."I'm so sorry! I let you die!" Hazelfur licked his muzzle.
"It's okay. I'm with Grayrock now." Grayrock was his father's brother. He died from white-cough, and Fernheart couldn't save him. Hazelfur wasn't born yet, though.
"I know... but I'll miss you and live with the guilt of losing you forever."
Treepaw nodded and turned away. Another cat came into his place.
"Hello, little sister." Jumpfoot mewed."I saw that Treepaw is here."
"I know, and it's my-"
Jumpfoot interrupted her."No it isn't. It's Firelcaw's fault. And you were wrong to exile him. You shouldv'e killed him for he is to cause more trouble." Horror swept through her.
"You mean that... I don't even want to know. I'll tell Rabbitstar what you told me." Jumpfoot nodded and meowed a good-bye and Hazlefur's vision turned to blackness.
The next day, Hazelfur padded over to Rabbitstar's den. "Rabbitstar?" she called."I need to talk to you." She walked in. He wasn't there. Hazelfur went over to Greeneye to see if he'd seen him.
"Sorry, I didn't." Was his anwser. She went over to Vineclaw to ask. She also said no. Hazelfur started to wonder if he went on patrol. Then Frostail came up.
"Do you know why Rabbitstar went to the lake?" he asked. "Cause I saw him go to it."
"Um.. no. Sorry have to go." Hazelfur raced over to the lake. Why was he there? Whatever it is, it's going to be trouble.
She found Rabbitstar sitting by the lakeshore. He was staring at a fish who was swimming around below him. She padded up to him.
"Rabbitstar?" she said uncertainly."Why are you here?"
"I want to get away from the murdering, acusing, and pain for a while." He mewed sadly.
"I want to tell you what Starclan said to me." Hazlefur meowed. Rabbitstar looked up at her with sad eyes.
"Starclan has abandoned us, Hazelfur." He said suddenly."We have to cope for ourselves, not looking up to those betrayers." Hazlefur glanced at him in shock. Her leader didn't belive in Starclan anymore!
"No, Rabbitstar." she demanded."They do look after us and we have to respect them. They could easily wipe us all out with one omen. And that omen may be today."
"What do you mean?"
"Starclan said to me in a dream, 'Tree and tree will sway in the wind, but one will fall on the clan.'" Hazelfur continued."And last night, they said to me that Fireclaw will cause great trouble and we have to kill him for the clans to survive. Yesterday was only a small amount of trouble he will cause. We have to find him."
"But he could be anywhere now!" Rabbitstar protested."And I don't want to waste any warriors."
"Then I'll go. I can go with one warrior, and Feathersong will look after the clan." Hazelfur insisted.
Rabbitstar considered this, and mewed,"Okay. But if you know where he is, come straight back so you won'y get hurt by him, okay?" he asked. Hazelfur nodded and was about to race off but the leader mewed, "You have to take Frostail, and leave tomorrow." Hazelfur slumped. Frostail! Of all the cats... Hazelfur nodded and raced back to camp. Rabbitstar was still stitting by the water when she ran through the forest.

The next day at her den, she packed two traveling herb leaf wraps, and brought them out into the clearing to Frostail. When she told him about the journey, he must've thought Hazelufur chose him.
"Great! You won't be sorry, Hazelfur!" he had mewed.
Today, he was half asleep. Frostail yawned and reluctantly ate one of the wraps.
"Come on, Frostail! We have to move now." she mewed."We still have to catch his trail!"
"Okay, let's go then. We will go to the end of Cloudclan's territory, because that's where some cat saw him last." The two cats set out on their journey, and Hazelfur cast one last glance at her beloved clan.
