I laughed.
I thrashed.
I felt the electric shock run its course up my spine. I could feel Andrea's eyes as she rolled them. I could hear the monster's growl as I laughed again.
Another shock seized my body.
I spit on the ground in front of me, earning another growl from the Collector. Another failed attempt on punishing me, nothing hurt anymore. Instead, it was just another exciting part in my day.
Another shock.
My head flopped down, slamming into my chest which was heaving for air. Dark hair hung low over my eyes as I grinned up at Andrea. She gave me her usual look, enough. I could almost hear her voice.
This shock I yelled.
A fake one. Pretend I learned my lesson. It'll make them happy for a day, until I wreck something else.
Another shock, another yell.
The Collector grinned as I felt the electricity fade from my fingertips. He released my hands and I fell forward onto the metal grates they called a floor. Andrea grabbed my arms, bowing her head to the Collector and dragging me away.
"You have to stop this." She hissed, "before they find out what you are." Another laugh shook my body.
"It's cute how you still believe in that." The words were barely out of my mouth before she slapped me.
"Don't be an idiot, don't put my life on the line for your little games." She hissed. Angry could almost be written across her face in red. "Yes I believe in the prophecy the others whisper about in dark corners. Yes, I believe one day someone will kill The Collectors. But trust me, I don't think it's going to be you. Or even me."
"I'm not putting your life on the line." I shrugged my arm away from her, trying to walk on my own. But my nerve endings didn't quite respond and I stumbled to the ground, "if you really believe in the prophecy, you'll know they won't kill us. Not unless they want more to arrive." I spoke in a low impersonating voice as she practically picked me back up. I never quite understood how she put up with me.
Andrea didn't reply, instead brought me to our empty cell and flung me onto my bed before falling onto her own. I watched her as she scratched behind her ear where her translator sat embedded in her skull. What I would give for one of those. It was a cheap one she got installed before I got here. She had no one who spoke her language, so she traded some 'personal items' for it. I'd never gotten much more than that, only that the alien who installed it is long since gone.
"Why are you looking at me." She snapped, chucking some scrap metal at my face.
"Hey! Don't touch the masterpiece." I gestured to my face, giving her a wink.
"Oh please." She murmured, rolling onto her side. "Go to bed, Nico." I scowled at the nickname she knew I hated. So, almost only to cross her, I didn't go to sleep. I lay with awake until I heard slow, shallow breaths. It could've been peaceful if not for the screams down the hall. I grinned as a high pitched one hit my ears.
