"Shhh, it's okay, baby. It's okay." A young boy, no older than five stared up at a stunning neko with black hair and fluffy black ears.
"Mommy will be back." She leaned down and pressed her lips to her little boy's head. Her bright green eyes glistened with tears as she stroked his head.
"I'll be back." She repeated and the boy reached out, crying as she pulled away.
"Mommy! Don't leave!" The boy sobbed as he tried to grab onto her cloak but she was gone. He stared out at the empty street with wide eyes, tears streaming down his face.
"Mommy!"
Sean shot up with a gasp and looked around before he sighed, pressing his hands to his face. He had the same dream for many nights now but he always woke up in tears. His mother had left him when he was only five, sacrificing herself to the slave traders following them so he could survive. It was rough by himself. Food was always scarce and he often got cold with very little clothing. Often he expected to die but he always pulled through, even in the tough winters. He had always been on his own after her death, only relying on himself.
"Dammit." He whispered as he fiercely wiped his tears away. He sighed and brushed his long, sandy hair out of his face before standing and pulling his cloak on. He quickly pulled the hood over his ears and tucked his tail away before he slipped out of his tent, into the busy streets. Men, women, and children buzzed around like busy bees, only stopping at the occasional tent with goods to their liking. His 'father' owned one of the tents and permitted Sean to hide in the back. Sean was one of the few nekos who did not have an owner but that came with the price of constantly running. He could only stay in a town for so long before he was forced to leave. Sometimes when he stayed, he would find a man such as the one he currently stayed with. A man who was gracious enough to feed him and permit a place to stay. But Sean knew he wouldn't put his neck on the line for the younger boy. If it came down to it, the man would throw Sean at the guards to keep himself safe.
Nekos were wanted as slaves for the vampires, they were viewed as toys, pets even. There were very few nekos who managed to avoid finding themselves in the hands of a vampire. Sean was one of the few, only because he ran any time he so much as thought a vampire was eyeing him. He was lucky not to be on the market yet. Unclaimed nekos, if caught, were sold for money and that was one of the last things Sean wanted. He was not an animal to be sold, though the vampires seemed to think otherwise.
Sean pulled his cloak tight around his small fiigure and walked through the streets, occasionally stopping at one of the tents. Some had food, others had clothing, and a select few had jewelry that shone in the sunlight. Jewelry with rubies and sapphires, even some with diamond. They were breathtaking and only those of high status could afford them. He didn't stay at the tents for long though. It was time he went to a new town. The current one he was in was extremely poor. He felt horrible for stealing food from the people there but the world believed in Social Darwinism, Survival of the Fittest. And to survive, he had to keep moving.
Hurrying through the streets, a yelp escaped his lips as he ran into someone causing him to fall flat on his butt. Groaning he rubbed his head before he realized with a jolt that his hood had slid off. Barely sparing a glance at the vampire above him, he took off and didn't waste anytime for small talk. He shifted as he ran, dodging people's feet barely. The vampire was bigger than him and most definitely faster but with the crowded streets, Sean was faster with his cat form aiding him in his escape.
"Damned cat." The vampire hissed. He wasn't as far behind as Sean thought. He quickly sped up but out of nowhere, he was caught by his scruff. His eyes widened and he thrashed, eyes wild.
"Hey Kitty. Calm down." He froze upon hearing a deep, sultry voice, a voice that was dominating and held no room for disobedience. He looked around slowly and found that he was being held by a fairly tall male who wore dark clothing. The male had black hair along with a 5 o'clock shadow. He was well groomed and smelled like...sandalwood. Sean closed his eyes, focusing on his sense of smell, hearing, and touch. The man holding him adjusted his grip calmly so the cat was being held like a baby instead of hanging by the scruff.
"Your highness. I apologize, I was just about to deal with that cat." Sean's follower had dropped to a bow and it was then that he realized just who was holding him. His eyes trailed up the face of the Prince slowly before he groaned lowly. The prince of vampires...he had run into the prince of all people.
"Well, I am sure you could leave him in my hands then. I am always looking for a new pet." The Prince chuckled and turned his back, looking to his guards calmly before he walked to a beautiful black horse. It was adorned with jewels, most of which consisted of white gold and sapphire. The prince easily jumped on, using one hand while keeping a firm grip on the cat with his other.
"Now, I suggest you behave yourself on the way home. I would hate to have to hurt such a beautiful cat." Sean frowned at the older male's words but he dug his claws into the clothing he wore, closing his eyes tightly. So this was how he was captured after 18 years of running. By the prince who had saved him only to make him his...pet.
