Sean woke up the next morning with a soft groan. He sat up, slowly looking around when he realized he was still in Adrian's bed. Scowling, he quickly got up and pulled the shirt he wore down. Adrian was still fast asleep, not surprising since it was about four in the morning. That didn't bother Sean though, who was accustomed to waking up early and running. However, this day he decided to explore...and maybe run if the chance was given. But if he ran, he would have to get as far away as he could. Probably to another kingdom even because his owner would most likely have his head. Sean winced at the thought, rubbing his throat. A noose did not sound fun, if he even made it that far. He would probably just be killed on the spot seeing as the prince probably wouldn't care too waste time on him.
"Hey, Kid! What're you doing here?" He jumped at a deep voice and saw a guard following him with narrowed eyes. Sean didn't let himself be intimidated however as he stood his ground, crossing his arms over his chest.
"I am Prince Adrian's new pet." He scowled deeply at having to use the name but it beat being thrown in a cell for trespassing.
"He's good to go, Leon. I saw him come in with the prince yesterday." It was the stable boy from yesterday who came to his aide. The boy walked up with a horse by his side, a smile on his face which made Sean scowl even more. How could this kid be happy when he was a slave to the royalty? Sean asked him just that once the guard disappeared, seeming to trust the stable boy's word.
"Nice to meet you too. I'm Quinn. And I'm happy because I get fed, a roof over my head, and clothes. And in return I just take care of the horses. Seems fair enough for me, especially since they are such good animals." He appeared to be cooing the last part to the horse as he stroked it's mane.
"Come on, let me show you the horses. I love them." He grinned.
"I'm Sean." Ears twitched as Sean spoke slowly, deciding it was best he didn't make enemies in the castle, especially with the other nekos. If he was going to escape, it was best he made friends rather than foes. Quinn grinned and they soon arrived at the stables.
"You can help me brush them if you want. They really are nice creatures and very well behaved. This is Amber. She is the queen's horse." He opened a large pin, allowing for a beautiful white horse to step out.
"Wow. She is pretty." Sean said softly as a brush was placed in his hand.
"She is one of my favorites. Most of the horses have to be brushed but right now I just need to do her and Night." Quinn nodded to a very familiar black horse as he gently led the white by touching her side.
"Adrian's horse." Sean nodded as Quinn unlocked the pin.
"Yes. Though I don't think you should call the prince by his name. It is not our place. Now, since these are well-trained horses, they will follow us. We don't need to get the reins." Sean scowled at his comment about Adrian, deciding to ignore it, as he walked beside the black horse.
"Who do the others belong to?" He asked instead.
"The King, Prince Julian, and the princess of coarse. Then the others are for knights. I'm typically taking care of them from dusk to dawn." Quinn explained and pointed to three different horses.
"That is Prim. She is the Princess'." He pointed to a tan horse who was laying down.
"Then there is Midnight. Prince Julian's." A pretty black horse except he was not pitch black. He had speckles like stars.
"And finally, Whisper. The king's, as I am sure you can guess." A dark brown horse, speckled as well with a black mane. Each horse was different in their own way and it seemed Quinn knew all of them because as they passed the pins, he named each. Sean was, surprisingly, very fascinated with the horses as they came to a stop outside the stable and began to brush. For the most part, Night stayed still but occasionally he would try to nip Sean who scowled and pushed the horses head away.
"It just means he likes you. He only does that to Prince Adrian." Quinn laughed softly as Amber merely waited for him to finish.
"I dont want him to like me. Nor do I want the Prince to." Sean mumbled. Quinn stopped brushing and frowned as he looked at him.
"You know, Sean, it was Prince Adrian who brought me here and gave me the job in the stables. He found me on the streets and thought I would be better off here. And I am. The prince's are nice. Even Prince Adrian. He has a temper and I have heard a few of the female maids mention that he can be...sexual but I have never heard of him truly hurting a slave or forcing them into something." He explained.
"Yes but from what I heard, he also hasn't owned his own pet which he can do what he wants with. And I do not have any intention of being his pet. I intend to get out of here and even if I can't do that, I will not submit to that royal jackass who has everything handed to him. He doesn't know the meaning of pain or loss. My own mother was taken from me by slave traders. There is no way I will submit to someone like him..." Sean trailed off at the end when he noticed Quinn's ears had twitched and while he was looking at Sean, his ears were directed behind him, slightly to the right which was opposite of the horse. Sean took a deep breath to cool himself before he turned around and saw Adrian looking down at him with calm eyes that twinkled with amusement.
