The fans were still unaware that Avi and Kirstie were an item. They had kept it under wraps because they wanted a little bit of privacy before exposing their relationship. Kisses were behind the curtains. Hugs in public were kept short and brief. Lingering touches were prohibited. It's not like they were forced to do so. It was their choice.
Sometimes the others would get annoyed when they were obviously restraining their feelings for each other. Especially Scott. He had seen Kirstie hurt time and time again and the one time he thought she finally found happiness, she was trying to hide it. He still remembered when they announced their relationship to the rest of Pentatonix.
It was during their long break in between tours. They had called a group meeting, nervously calling and texting the others asking if they could make it out to a nearby Starbucks. The others had suspected it for a long time. The two were always close, giving each other glances, laughing bashfully at their phones and blushing constantly around each other. They weren't awkward...just flirty. The honeymoon phase, Scott called it.
When they finally let it off their chests, everyone was supportive and celebratory, which surprised them both.
"You're not...mad?" Kirstie asked quietly.
"Mad? Why would we be mad?" Kevin asked like she was crazy.
"Not mad, but like, upset? In any way? You don't mind us together?" Avi asked in the same tone as Kirstie, one hand holding hers, the other one scratching the back of his neck nervously.
"Oh come on, you two were made for each other. And even if we did have a problem with it, we wouldn't really be able to stop you." Mitch laughed at them, reassuring and relaxing them.
But now, it was a different story. It was their little sound check meet-and-greet session before a show. They had just performed a few songs and were now taking questions from the small audience gathered in front of the stage. A teenage girl, who looked like she was dressed for a summer music festival despite the snow outside, confidently held the mic that was passed to her.
"So, around Tumblr and Twitter, people have been spreading rumors, suggesting that Avi and Kirstie are together, and I, along with a lot of other Pentaholics, were wondering if you wanted to either confirm or deny that?" she said in one breath, the others around her snapping their heads in her direction, shocked that she was so forward and direct. Usually, nobody really brought up their relationship statuses.
"Uh..." Scott stammered, not sure if they wanted to announce it right there and then.
He saw that Kirstie was looking at Avi, biting her lip, her eyebrow slightly raised. Were they going to do it?
Instead of saying anything, Avi walked over to her, grabbed both sides of her face and kissed her more passionately than he ever had (in front of the others at least). After a few seconds of initial shock, Kevin whooped, fist-pumping in the air. Mitch joined in, jumping up and down while cheering. Scott was laughing, shouting "aye" over and over again as they continued their kiss. The audience soon recovered from the surprise as well, clapping manically, pulling out their phones and cameras to get it all.
The couple soon pulled away, heavy breathing, hearts full of love and lust and everything warm and wonderful that they could imagine. Kirstie was still looking at Avi, smirking, and without missing a beat, raised her mic to her mouth and said: "Does that answer your question?"
