Analysis
They tell us not to analyse the prompts too much but jokes on them- after 12 years of English class, you overanalyse everything.
I'm back at uni so I really do need to make this quick note quick.
I have toyed with the idea of writing something Marvel-y for a few years now, but I've always been a bit scared. It's a very daunting universe to write fanfiction for. I reckon this will be my only attempt, but I did enjoy this attempt. The Marvel Cinematic Universe worked rather well for this prompt, especially considering the events tha occurred in that 'teeny-weeny' movie that came out in April/May.
I'm a bit of a superhero-movie junkie so it was about time that I wrote about some superheroes. When I was seven, my favourite movie was Spiderman II (with Tobey Maguire aka the BEST Spidey). Spiderman was always my favourite superhero until I was seventeen and watched the first Captain America movie for the first time and then I loved Steve but after 2016, I'm not so sure. I think Korg is my favourite now.
Anyway, the best part of the MCU is not the movies themselves but the day that is often chosen to be the release date (or around it). Thank you Marvel for releasing 'The Avengers' on May the 4th. It was a lovely birthday present. Alas I would have said that same thing about 'Avengers: infinity War' but you had to push that forward to the 27th of April, didn't you!?
(I'm kidding of course. My family ended up watching it on the weekend after the 4th because the three cinemas in our city were packed for that whole week. It was a dramatic day, that day – I used hand signals to convey to my sister that Nick Fury was going to die as the credits ran but she interpreted it wrong and thought that Thor was going to die so she burst into tears and punched me. And yeah, that's how my birthday weekend ended).
Back to the topic at hand, me thinks!
I wrote in first person which is something I haven't done in a while. It made sense to me though as I figured I had a lot to write about in 1500 words max and I could not really afford to give the words to the OC to develop her so writing the story in her point of view allowed us to get to know her a little better. Addie is so ordinary too which was super refreshing. There are not enough ordinary original characters and she is essentially just like every 20-year-old out there.
How about that change in reality though? A ninety-year-old Cap. At least he got saved from the ice this time and hey! No Infinity Stones so no Infinity War! Half the world owes their lives to Addie and they don't even know it. Poor ordinary Addie.
