nine

ethans pov-
we are eating our lunch and talias phone goes off. its justin. she answers and a few moments later she hangs up and starts to cry.

"whats wrong baby," i say holding her, "talia what happened?"

she doesnt say anything. she just cries into my chest.

"take me to the hospital" she says
"why t" i ask
"justins there he got into a car accident. hes in critical condition" she explains still crying

i tell grayson and billie to come to the hospital after school and talia and i leave.

"baby shhhh," i stop in the middle of the hallway and i hug her, "hes gonna be okay just breathe."

we walk to my car and get in. i start the engine and start to drive to the hospital.

i hold talias shaking hands in my right hand.

"princess, breathe in... breathe out. he will be okay. i promise." i say

shes starting to calm down. i put some slow music on.

"sing talia. you said singing helps you take your mind off of things." i suggest

she starts to sing "stay with me" by sam smith because thats what song is on.

after about 20 minutes we get to the hospital. we check in and we stand in the waiting room because there is no room to sit.

talia is still shaking so i bring her towards me and wrap my arms around her. she hugs me and starts crying into my chest again. my poor girl.

i stroke her hair trying to calm her down.

"he will be okay baby. he will be okay" i say

20 minutes pass by and we are still waiting.

"code blue code blue room 9" we hear

talia looks up at me with fear in her eyes

"thats justins room" she says

she runs to the lady in the front
"what does code blue mean" talia chokes out
"its an emergency situation where the patient is in cardiac arrest and needs immediate help" she explains
"s-so my brothers heart is f-failing?" talia cries

the lady nods talia sits on the floor. she just sobs and sobs. i sit on the floor with her and hold her.

talias pov-
my brother is dying.
i cant lose justin.

im sitting on a hospital floor crying into ethans chest. everything was going so well. i was happy. i was going to move in with justin.

"we are here for justin daniel?" i hear someone say

ethan and i both look up to see my parents.

"baby theres seats lets go sit." he says and helps me up

we go take a seat and i lay my head on ethans shoulder. he holds my hands trying to stop the shaking.

my mom looks at me with disgust. my dad doesnt even look at me.

ethan starts to play with my hair which makes me doze off. he really knows how to calm me down.

ethans pov-
talias parents come to the hospital. her father doesnt even look at her while her mother gives her the dirtiest look i have ever seen someone give.

i start to play with talias hair knowing it calms her down. she dozes off for about a half hour until the doctor says justins name.

we all get up and rush towards the doctor.

"is he okay please tell me hes okay" talia speaks softly

"we were able to keep his heart beating. his oxygen is very low. hes losing a lot of blood and we have no control over it. we dont know if hes gonna make it for sure." the doctor explains

talias eyes start watering up again as she looks at the doctor with no emotion.

"you cannot let my brother die." she says

the doctor returns back inside and we go back to sit down.

"do you want to go get something to drink? you need some water talia." i say
"okay lets go get water." she gets up and grabs my hand

we get to the vending machine and i get two waters and two bags of chips.

"baby can you text billie to bring me some clothes? im staying here overnight." she says
"if you stay im staying too. ill text her right now." i say and i get out my phone to text billie

me- can you bring t and i some clothes before you come? we are staying overnight. they said they dont know if hes gonna live or not.
billie- of course i can. gray and i are staying too. justin is basically my older brother too.
me- thank you billie

we go back to the waiting room and we just sit. billie and grayson come after school and talia is asleep. she's exhausted. my poor baby. i take my sweater off and put it on her and kiss her forehead.

about a half an hour later talia starts mumbling in her sleep.

"no no justin justin no" she mumbled
"no justin" she woke up freaking out she started looking around

"hey youre okay justins still alive. everything is okay. it was just a dream baby." i assure her

talias pov-

-talias dream-
"you may go visit justin in his room" says the doctor
we walk to his room and he looks at me and smiles. i go to grab his hand but he moves it away.
"im sorry talia. i love you. dont forget me." justin said and a few seconds later we heard a "beeeeeeeeeep"
"no justin please. JUSTIN WAKE UP PLEASE!" i scream
"no no justin no." i cry
-end of dream-

i wake up freaking out. ethan tells me that everything is alright. justin is still alive and that im safe.

i check my phone to see what time it is.
4:30 pm

"ethan" i say
"yes baby" he says
"why do you like a mess like me" i look him in the eyes as my eyes start to water
"hey, hey, hey," he says cupping my face with his hands, "you are not a mess. i like you because you are the best thing that has ever happened to me talia." he kisses me

after that i go to the bathroom and i cry. i cant lose my brother. hes my rock. i need him. i start to pray. i have been in here for like 15 minutes already.

i finish praying and i start walking back to the waiting room i see everyone gathered around the doctor and i see billie crying and grayson holding her.

no this cant be happening.
no no no.
