"The heart knows when the search is over."

What the fuck? As soon as I heard that voice, I snapped my head up and looked around.
"Who..." I started, but the voice cut me off before I could finish forming that sentence.
"Hi, yeah, I'm Hunter, you know... your soulmate," he said and over my shoulder, my eyes met Hunter's blue ones.
"You're a guy," I pointed out.
"Yeah, last time I checked; I was. Sorry to break it to you, but you might be gay," he replied giving me a once-over look.
"I'm not gay. I like girls". I heard a sound in my mind that sounded a lot like a mental sigh.
"Never heard of bisexuality, huh?" he said, running a hand through his hair. I turned forward again and frowned.
"Hunter, I can't have a male soulmate," I muttered and sunk in my chair.
"Why? Because being gay is a sin?" he countered, his voice rising in my head.
"What? No, my parents... they'll..." my voice got weaker at the mental image of my prissy parents and I gave a negative shake of my head.
"They'll what?" he pressed, an angry undertone still clear in his tone.
"They'll kick me out. Or worse, they'll try to fix this".
At that, he got silent. Very silent. A couple of moments passed, and I couldn't handle this any longer. I looked once again over my shoulder, trying not to be too obvious.
Hunter seemed in deep thought. He was frowning, a little wrinkle forming between his two eyebrows. He bit his lower lip and his baby blue eyes were clouded with a sinister expression.
"You'll get wrinkle if you keep frowning like that," I tried to joke but I got no response. Come on, say something, I thought to myself.
"Look, we can keep this to ourselves for a while. I don't know, at least until you toss the idea to your parents and then..." he finally said, hesitance clear in his voice.
"What? No, there will be no tossing! They won't understand. They won't accept it," I replied almost immediately. Wasn't he listening to me?
"Accept it? You didn't choose this. It's who you are. They have to understand that," he said with a soft undertone.
"They'll believe we're sick". I heard him clear his throat and a couple of other students looked at him. In my head, he only hummed.
"Do you even want this? Because to me it seems like you don't even want to try," he concluded seconds later, making me lower my eyes. He was resting his face against his palms, hiding his expression from me, but I had heard the crack in his voice.
"Hunter... I want this. I just didn't expect you to be a guy," I spoke quietly, but he heard me. I knew that much. He raised his face and his eyes met mine.
"It's okay, I get it. I always knew I liked guys. You deserve the time to freak out about it," he said with a small laugh.
"I am not freaking out," I retorted being defensive.
"You kinda are..." he said, laughing louder. Damn, he looked so composed on the outside for someone who was filling my head with laughter. "Can I ask you something?" he asked, after calming down.
