AHHHHH!

My head shot up and I looked around my room. I couldn't get the memory out of my head, or at least what I remembered. My own scream haunts my dreams. I took a deep breath when I had realized that everything was fine. I grabbed my bulky, brown glasses and look at my clock. It was 5am. I got out of bed and walked to the kitchen. I grabbed a cup from my dishwasher and got some water.

I have thirty minutes to get ready and I have a thirty minute drive to work. After finishing my water I went to the bathroom and pulled my red hair into a lose braid. I put on some simple makeup and made my way to my room to put on my uniform. I grabbed my bag and locked my apartment door before I made my way to my car.

My car was a 2016 mini cooper that I bought off my parents. It's in a pretty good condition and it does what I need it to do. I placed my bag down on the passenger seat and started up the engine. I drove into the drive thru at Starbucks and order myself a coffee. I made my way to the free way and turned the car radio on.

After a thirty minute drive I made it to town. I live outside of town and have to drive a while to get anywhere. Where I live is like a gas station for the trucks on the freeway. It's has a Starbucks and a few other places but other than that it's small. I'm a waitress at Annie's restaurant. It serves Italian and around town it's pretty popular. I was lucky to get the job here and my salary is enough to keep me stable.

I unlocked the doors and walked into the kitchen to put my apron on. I'm covering for two other shifts today, I'll be here till closing. I set everything up till we open at 9 o'clock. Others don't show up till around 8:30. I'm usually on my own in the morning but I do this for the extra pay. It wasn't easy getting this job and I do everything they tell me to do. I finished set up right around 8:30. My boss and a few other employees showed up and we opened up together. We usually don't have a big crowd till 4 so till then the day goes by easy and calmly.

"How are my favorite customers today?" I said as I approached the elderly couple that come every Friday at 6 o'clock pm.

"We're doing great Layla! And how has your day been!" The women smiled to me.

"My day has just gotten better now that you're here!" I smiled back to her. "I have your food ready in the kitchen right now! I'll go get it for you." I said.

"Thank you dear!" The man said.

"I'm happy to help!" I returned shortly with their food. "Feel free to tell me if there's anything wrong tonight." I smiled to them.

"Actually there's a really loud group right behind us." The lady said and pointed to the group. "My husband's hearing aids can't pick up what I'm saying if they're being too loud."I stared at the group and felt a pit in my stomach. It was the son of the mayor and his two friends. I could see this going wrong for me in so many different ways.

"I'll ask them to quiet down then." I smiled to them and slowly walked to the table. I adjusted my glasses and gathered all the courage I had in my body. "Excuse me, I'm going to have to ask you to quiet down a little." I said with a smile on my face. Their laughter disappeared and they all stared at me.

"Why should we?" One of the friends said.

"It's just disturbing some other customers." I said and hid my trembling hand behind my back.

"Why don't you just move them to another place?" Another friend said.

"I could move you to a more suited place if you would like?" I said feeling more nervous.

"Are you trying to kick us out?" The first friend screamed and everyone around us stopped talking.

"No that's not what I meant. Please keep your voice down." My timid voice said as both the friends stood up. The mayor son sat still smirking as his aggressive friends were yelling at me. My voice became quieter and I became smaller in size.

"Layla!" I heard my manager from behind me. I turned my head and saw him very unhappy. I walked over to him and tried to calm my trembling hands. My manager pulled me into the kitchen and scolded me. "What was that all about?" he yelled.

"The noise they were causing were intruding on the other customers meals. I just asked them to quite their voices." I said quietly.

"Do you know who that boy is?" I nodded. "They may do whatever they please! I regret to inform you that you'll no longer be able to work here. Your last pay check will come tomorrow and I want you out of this restaurant now!" I wanted to argue but when I looked into his angry eyes my confident sunk back down.

"Yes sir." I took my apron off and my name tag. I grabbed my bag and left through the back entrance. I leaned against the wall and let out a sigh.

"Wow, you lost your job over that." I heard a voice say from a little ways away. It looked like they were smocking a cigarette and were making their way over to me. "That's harsh!" He stepped into the light from the light post and I saw the son of the mayor standing before me. I felt angry but kept my comments to myself.

"What are you doing back here?" I asked and he let out some smoke from his cigarette.

"I don't particle like smoking in front of the public. It wouldn't reflect well on my parents." He said and blew smoke in my face. I coughed and pushed the air away from me.

"Well, I wish you a happy life mama's boy!" I said angry. I automatically felt bad for saying it but it was what I was feeling. I turned away and made my way to my car.

"Now hold on! It's not my fault you got fired!" He said and I stopped in my place.

"No, but I also saw the way you looked at the whole event! You were enjoying watching it happen! You were smirking at the situation! That kind of attitude is what will reflected poorly on your parents!" I said and never once turned to see him. If I were to see him I would feel timid again. "And smoking can kill you I suggest you stop." I walked off to my car and never turned back to see him.
